Large Nazi Party Flag - Double-Sided (Item FLAG 2-1)

DESCRIPTION: This is measured at a whopping 114x 46 inches. It is a typical NS flag that would be flown at various Party functions. It is double sided and in generally good condition except for a few moth holes here and there.  But it is a good example of “Der Hakenkreuz”  (Hooked Cross-Swastika). 100% original.  The huge ones are hard to find. The GI looters usually passed on them because they were too large for the duffel bag.

Reichskriegsfahne (War Flag) (Item FLAG 2-2)

DESCRIPTION: This is the famed military ensign of the Wehrmacht used mostly by the Kriegsmarine (Navy) -- at least that is where it shows up most often in pictures of warships at sea. It measures 50 inches by 30 inches (big); it is in fairly good condition with a few holes. It has the letters "Kr. FL" on the bunting edge along with the name of the company of manufacture, "Lorenz Summe Söhne--Oberkotz." Yes, holes, but all tiny except one that is dime sized. It has the rope loops at each end for securing it to the flagpole. The condition is fair with a few holes. These flags are getting to be very rare today and cost much more in Germany than they do here, when one is rarely found. At least it is a good, honest, and genuine Kriegsfahne and is reasonably priced.

Big NS Party Flag (Item FLAG 2-3)

DESCRIPTION: This one is 6 foot by 159 inches. The swastika on white circle is featured on both sides (stitched); it really has no holes but has a slight stain on the white field on one side. It has four pole supports sewn at the end; this is how the flag fastens to the flag pole. This one is typical of the flags that flew at rallies of the National Socialist Party. Probably used at the Reichsparteitag at Nuremberg that was held annually. The condition is pretty much perfect. This is the largest one we have ever had.  A great one to fly from the top of your house. I am sure the neighbors won’t object!

Standard NS Party Flag (Item FLAG 2-4)

DESCRIPTION: This is probably a flag put together by female Party members for some special event in their village or town. Many patriotic families would home-make flags like this. It is rather crudely made but is double sided. The stitching is unusual in that it has little black dots that run along with the machine stitching? However it is 100 percent an original period piece! It measures 83 x 120 inches in size. It does not have the stiff bunting support at the edge, because it was looted by a medical officer with a handy dandy medical scissors who did not know how a flag should be correctly taken down. So it is a great example of the fervent enthusiasm of the German people at that time in the Nation's history. A good collectable item.

The Tattered Ensign (Item FLAG 2-5)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a flag that was brought back by a veteran who was at the Elbe River when the Yanks met their Red Russian Allies in 1945. There were huge celebrations in this event. Hugging and kissing abounded. The GI’s shook the blood covered hands of the murderers and rapists of the Soviet system. Remember this was the regime that president Regan called the “Evil Empire” and everything was happy and joyful because both of the victorious Allies there had managed to gloriously kill many of Germanys soldiers and civilians in their march to Democracy on behalf of Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill. Yes, I will be no doubt assailed for that statement but like Martin Luther I must say, “Here is stand, I can do no other; God help me, Amen”. This is my reading of history and I envision it as my writings reflect.

The flag is torn and tattered but it stands in testament of the brave struggle of Europe’s best to save their nations from the threat of Communism. They lost as did the Western World in general. The Flag was in the possession of one of the Red Mongols and the GI traded a pack of ‘Luckies’  for it and as the Asian Hun smiled cheerfully the GI remarked to him in broken Russian that he had a really beautiful "tooth"! The flag has rips and tears but still retains its character.  It measures 26x 54. A true memento of the “crusade” in Europe.

NSKOV Flag (Item FLAG 2-7)

DESCRIPTION: Here without a doubt is one of the rarest flags of the NS Party...the Nationalisozialistische-Kriegsopfenversorgung NSKOV (translated: National Socialist War Victims Care). This was a social welfare organization for seriously wounded veterans as well as frontline fighters of World War. One the NSKOV was established in 1934 and was affiliated to the NSDAP. The veterans of the Great War were highly respected by the Party; they remembered how the Reds and Leftists reviled them and would spit on amputees who sat up against walls in the cities after the war begging for sustenance in the 1920’s. Men on crutches were assailed and assaulted by Red front hooligans, but After Hitler’s coming to Power, the veterans were treated not only with deserved respect but they were well cared for and put on a pedestal above all other N.S. functionaries. Giant rallies were held to honor them. Attending these rallies were members of Germany's new Whermacht. The Navy representatives, the Army, the SS-SA and thousands of the Political Leaders Corps often gathered to celebrate them.   Hitler, an ex-frontline soldier in WWI, often spoke words of praise for these former comrades in arms and of the severely wounded -- reverent words were spoken. The Party provided wheel chairs, motorized carts, and prosthetics. All paid in full by the National Socialist government. This applied also to good civilians under ‘Hitler’s Health Plan”.

The flag is in very fine condition except for some minor moth holes shown. The measurement is 58 x 41. It has tie strings for pole attachment, it is double sided with patch on both sides. The patch has the embroidered letters of the NSKOV STUTZPUNKT Hurth. This would be translated to the stronghold of the city of Hurth. The Terminology 0f Stutzpunkt was used by the veteran’s organizations as a word describing their various camps and HQ areas. This one was in the area of Cologne. The town was first mentioned in 1223 and was the site of the Eifel Aqueduct which supplied the city of Cologne with drinking water. The area was always a supporter of Hitler and the National Socialists. Many rallies of the NSKOV were held there. Again this is a very rare flag from one of the greatest of the N.S. organizations.

Hitler Youth Bannfahne (FLAG 2-8)

DESCRIPTION: Here is the rarest of the Hitler Youth flags measuring 68 x 44 with RZM marked flag pole rings; it is from the HJ Gruppe 1/87. These groups were called Banns and were numbered into “Gebiet” (Geographical sections).  The Bann was the basic unit of the Hitler youth. It was usually consisting of 2,400 to 3,600 members with four “Stamm” each of 600 members or more. The equivalent of a military regiment. Of these Bann there were more than 300 spread throughout Germany each with a strength of about 6,000 youth escorts. The equivalent of a company,  H.J. Fahnentrager carried a flag such as this in parades  The flag usually displayed a small colored identification panel in the upper left corner. The patch’s specific color was in accordance to the HJ branch to which the unit belonged. This one that we offer has a light blue patch, and a white unit number reserved for the Fleiger H.J. or flying Hitler Youth Bann.

So, what we offer here is probably the most elite corp within the youth organization, certainly the most colorful.  The flag is in near mint condition and double sided. It also has the RZM symbol and numerals for manufacture and date of issue stamped inside the seven fastening rings that are still intact. This is a very rare and beautiful flag in the best condition we have ever seen one of these in.

Flag or Standard of the Kreigsopfer (War Victims) NSKOV (FLAG 2-9 & VETS 2-12)

DESCRIPTION: This is another of the veterans organizations, this one was for those considered war victims (severely wounded). This organization was formed in 1930 and institutionalized in 1933.  It was an N.S. associated society assisting NSDAP party members and also non-members who had become disabled as a result of war injuries. Also see the flag from the NSKOV at FLAG 2-7 above for further information on the Veterans Association.

The standard is in really nice overall condition and has loops for fastening it to the pole and silver fringe all around three sides and that is what makes it a standard rather than a flag.  Since it is a standard this means that it might have been consecrated by its being touched to the Blutfahne (the sacred blood flag at the Nuremberg party rally). The black patch at the left hand upper corner reads Kriegsopferversorgung Stommeln. This means it is the official standard of the veterans of the wars 1870-1918 who were severely wounded and now live in the village of Stommeln and this is a village in the northwest of Cologne. Extremely heavy and tough fighting went on in that area in 1944 when the American armored spearhead was ground to a halt in the Stuberg-Mausbach area by the brave Wehrmacht counterattack that was mounted by units of the 17th German infantry Division, a unit that which had been re-equipped in west Prussia and was rushed to the battle zone in Stolberg. They fought well and inflicted many casualties on the unwelcome guests in the shadow of the sacred River Rhine. The standard measures 4 ft. x 55 inches including the fringe along the edges. It is quite a handsome piece. It has a few minor moth holes but overall in quite nice shape.

Early SA Standard “Sturmfahne” with Unit Patches (Kampfzeit!) (FLAG 2-10)

DESCRIPTION: This is a real treasure of a find, an early Sturmfahne of the SA Sturmabteilung  (Storm Sections). This was probably from the early 30’s before Hitler actually came to power in 1933. Those Days were considered the Kampfzeit (time of struggle!); “Sturmfahnen”is also referred to as Feldzeichenen and were carried before a marching Sturm. The Hakenkreuzfahne (swastika flag) originated in 1921. The early Sturmfahne consisted of a red field charged with a black ‘immobile’ swastika. Later ones had the ‘mobile’ or turning swastika on a white disc. In the upper left corner was a patch with the group colors and individual units shown. More than one patch could be sewn to the flag body. The patch on this standard is navy blue and would indicate that it was probably from the area of Hessen. The numerals on the patch designate the Strumbann 14 and the 30 indicates that this is the #30 Standarte in Hessen. Below this are two more unit designations embroidered directly into the cloth. These can be presumed to be additional sub-sturm that were admitted under the parent group shown in the blue patch. These extras are embroidered in a gilded thread. The flag measures 53x 47 in size. Of all our numerous flags we think this one is among the best!

It has a few old moth holes that we show in our pictures. The standard is double sided.  This is an important standard and could have been consecrated by its being held up to and touched by the Blutfahne at the Reichsparteitag at Nuremberg. SS Officer Jacob Grimminger would hold the “Blood Flag” while Adolf Hitler would touch the sacred flag to the cloth of the standard to be initiated and then this Standarte would be welcomed into the ranks of the Party.

A Large Labor Corps Pennant (FLAG 2-11 & RAD 6-7)

DESCRIPTION: Here in mint condition is a ‘Wimpel’ or Banner of the Reichsarbeitsdienst or Labor Service (RAD). This was an institution established by National Socialist Germany as an agency to reduce unemployment similar to but much superior to the relief programs in other countries during WWII. It was an auxiliary formation which provided support for the Wehrmacht. In July 1934 The RAD was formed and designated as the official state labor service. The RAD was an amalgamation of the many labor organizations formed in Germany during the time of the Weimar Republic. RAD members were to provide services for various civil, military and agricultural construction projects. Party leader Konstantin Hirel was its director during the organizations entire lifetime. The RAD was divided into two major sections The RAD manner for men and the RAD-Wj for women.

The House Flag or banner that we offer has the official symbol of the corps in its center. This symbol was popularly known as “Die kaffeebohne” (The coffee bean’). This one is for the men’s camp and sections. The women’s was similar, but had the wheat sheaths but no spade. Instead, it bore the swastika.  This wimple measures 79 x 46 inches long and as we stated it is in mint condition with bunting edge for pole mounting. A very beautiful example of a rare ensign

DESCRIPTION: This is a large kreigsmarine marked reichskreigsflagge in great condition except for some minor stains (very minor), but they might likely come out with a washing, but they are from good honest wear in wartime. This is the size for a submarine (U-boat); it measures 8' 3" x 56". It has its top lanyard loop but he extension rope was removed. It is, of course, a very dramatic looking flag. It is nicely marked on each side with its German dimensions and a stick eagle sits on the "M" for marine (navy). This is one of the better ones that we have unearthed in Germany last year. Just as nice as they come.

Hitler Jugend  Bannflagge ( Sectional Standard) (FLAG 2-13)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a fine example of the unit flag or standarte of the Hitler Youth.  Find out more about this type of flag go to the one listed as FLAG 2-8 in the flag section of the site. This one has cloth fastener strips instead of the rings. When you view the picture do not mistakenly think that those are rips down the left edge. These are the ties for fastening to the flag pole. The flag measures 64x 46 and is double sided. In great shape with no moth damage. The patch in the left side top shows it to be from the HJ Gruppe 4/II/ 288. The official description of this flag is “Hitler Jugend Gefolgschaftsfahne" ( Hitler Youth Escort Flag). The patch indicates the Bann that it is from and the “Gebiet” which is the  (Geographical section) that carried this flag in ceremonies and parades. The color of the background of the patch would indicate the branch of service such as Fleiger (flyers), motor Bann, Marine HJ, etc. This one in red we have not been able to research perhaps someone out there can help with this?

This is a very fine 3rd Reich piece and very historically important; after all the most important part of the agenda of the National Socialist state was the education and training that a young person would receive in the HJ and the girl’s equivalent groups. Yes, they loved the leader whose name they proudly bore and their goal was to be worthy members of the ‘Volk” community, respected and respectful. In every era of history of the various nations, youth had a goal and a recognized duty to family and Nation. They had their heroes that they sought to emulate in all their actions. For instance, the American Youth admire Michael Jackson, Kiss, Grateful Dead and all the black sports figures. The Hitler Youth adored, Rommel, Goring and their Fuhrer.

4x6 Imperial Battle Flag in Beautiful Condition (Item FLAG 2-14; KCLOTH 1-18; WWI 9-5; KRIEG 7-3)

DESCRIPTION: This is just about the nicest of these that we have ever encountered. It’s almost immaculate with one small rip along the left seam about 3 inches long. We have also found five or six small moth holes on the right side of the flag spaced here and there, but it can truthfully said that they do not detract at all from the general great look of this flag. The colors are bright; the fabric clean. These flags, when found, command huge prices in Germany, but here in the Georgia mountains, we will offer it to the fortunate buyer at only…

Schwarz, Weiss, Rot Banner
Schwarz, Weiss & Rot Banner (Item FLAG 2-15)

DESCRIPTION: This is probably what is referred to as a "drop" -- a banner that is used to decorate a speaker's rostrum or the opera box of some important official. It could also be used as a hanging from the windows of patriotic Germans who wished to show their love of the Vaterland. It has many uses. The schwarz, weiss and rot means "black, white and red" -- the true colors of Germany (Teutonia). The swastika was used throughout the Reich by NS adherents. They also used the colors in the form of flags and banners such as this one. This particular piece measures 28" x 46" and suspends from a wooden rod. It has scalloped edges at the bottom. A very nice example and certainly from the Third Reich period.
