Reichsnährstand Pole Top (Item AGRI 1-1; NSD 21-27)

DESCRIPTION: The Reichsnährstand (Bureau for Food and Nutrition) was led by R. Walter Darré. This was a government body set up in Nationalist Socialist Germany to regulate food production. It was formed in September 1933. All agricultural services came under its control as well as any farming business. This organization had legal authority to preside in all matters of agriculture and the schooling of young, future farmers. They had authority over foreign foodstuffs that came into the Reich and they were responsible for the legal protection of heredity farms and estates. For dress parade they did have uniforms, but what stood out boldly were their flags and flag tops.

The Pole Top The pole top is one of the largest of the various National Socialist emblems seen on this decorative piece. The swastika is decorated with a wheat sheath and a sword representing this organization’s participation in feeding and defending the German nation. The wheat sheath and sword are in a bright gold color that stands out boldly upon the steel swastika. The sword and wheat sheath are finished on both sides of the unit. The entire piece is in wonderful condition and is quite heavy and sturdy. It would lock unto the flagpole with the wing nut arrangement that you can see in the pictures. Uniquely, the entire unit is impressively mounted upon a heavy wooden base about 1½ inches thick that is hand carved into the shape of a swastika that the pole top emerges from (see our pictures). The base measures eight inches square. The entire piece, including the base measures 16 inches high. Extremely impressive and very rare!

Oil Painting of Walter Darré, Agriculture Minister and -Obergruppenführer (Item AGRI 1-2; ART MASTER 1-8)

DESCRIPTION: Darré was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on July 14, 1895. He was educated at Heidelberg and at Wimbledon near London. He served as an artillery officer in World War I. Darré turned to agriculture organizing farmers for the German Labor Party. In 1929, he wrote a book entitled The Peasantry as a Life Source of the Nordic Race, which attracted the attention of Rudolph Hess, who brought him to Hitler. At the Führer’s request Darré prepared a farm program for the NSDAP, which naturally favored Aryan farmers and established a hereditary system reminiscent of medieval days by which no farmland could ever be sold or mortgaged. Only Germans who could establish the purity of their blood could own such a farm and bear the honored title of Bauer or peasants. Darré was an -Obergruppenführer (lieutenant general) and from the January 1932 to February 1938, was head of the Central Office of Race and Resettlement. Today, many ecology-minded scientists and researchers praise many of the agricultural progress in land development and animal husbandry that were developed by this amazing pioneer in the advancement and development of the profession of farming that for the period of his leadership was made noble! The motto of his program was entitled “The Germanic Aristocracy of the Soil.” The painting is very detailed and lifelike with all colors vibrant, and the face is so perfect as to be a mirror image. The canvas was done by our masterful German artist who outdid himself on this one. This is a large canvas measuring 30 x 40 inches and we had it stretched and mounted for better photographing it and it can be sent this way or for less expensive shipping we would take it off the frame and send it rolled to the buyer and then it can be restretched and framed at your preference.

PRICE: $950.00; a “great” price for such a magnificent canvas

Beautiful Carved Box from the Reichsnährstand (Agricultural Institute) (Item AGRI 1-7)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a magnificent wooden box with hand-carved insignia of the agriculture group known as Reichsnährstand headed by Richard Walther Darré, who was one of the leading Nazi "blood and soil" ideologists and served as Reich Minister of Food and Agriculture from 1933 to 1942 (See our posting above at AGRI 1-2). The programs set in place by Darré are still practiced and promoted today in lands where farming is sacrosanct and respected. He was recognized as one of the greatest ecologists of the century by those who are not jaded by the sight of a "horrible" swastika and can see beyond the primitive, simple-minded acceptation of the Newspeak implantation of 1984-type hate and purpose. The box is what might be called rather "folkish" and is a wonderful example of the creative peasantry. The carver, and undoubtedly the owner, was obviously a National Socialist true believer in the movement. Every inch of the masterful work speaks of this feeling. The clean-cut carving stands out depicting a Gothic style and at the same time, Teutonic! The box measures 14 x 8 inches across the top and is 5½ inches deep. The front of the box as we are looking straight on has three carved panels depicting in the center various flowers in bloom right out of a figure of a heart (typical Bavarian). The panels adjacent to this depict mountain elk in bugling positions. The top of the lid looms gorgeous with the large, hand-carved insignia of the Reichsnährstand, which is the special depiction of the national eagle as granted to this organization. The eagle perches upon a rectangular plaque or a stand with the words "Blut und Boden" ("Blood and Soil") that is all high dimensionally carved. Under this is a circle surrounded by oak leaves containing the swastika, which has a wheat sheath and a Teutonic sword laid upon it. To each side of the large center symbol are beautiful wooden straps that emulate medieval hinges—symbols of strength and security. This is unique in the true meaning of the word—one of a kind. This N.S. treasure chest itself is the treasure, not the content.
