SS Landstorm Nederland Tunic (Item NETH 2-1)

DESCRIPTION: On 11 March 1943, the NSB (Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging) issued a statement to the effect that a Landwacht Nederland (Territorial Home Guard) had been set up and that all physically-fit members between the ages of 17 and 50 would be required to serve in it. Draft notices went out on May 6 and the first contingent of conscripts took an oath of loyalty to Hitler on May 30. On October 16, 1943, control of the Landwacht, now renamed Landstorm was taken over by the SS. Originally, the Landwacht wore WA (or Germanic SS) uniforms with a red brassard with Landwacht Nederland in black between two black wolf-hook emblems. Later, both Landwacht (second mobilization) and Landstorm went into German field gray. We believe this tunic belonged to Herr van der Heide whose albums appear above. We think this was his uniform while he was a member of the Germanic SS and was only slightly altered upon his entry into the Landstorm Nederland. The tunic is small and would correspond with his size at that time. It bears the Landwacht-Landstorm grenade on the collar patch. The rank is SS Maat or ‘SS Man.’ The shoulder is for noncommissioned ranks. The compulsory NSD patch is on the left arm. The “blank” sleeve band is the type worn by all ranks of the Germaanische-SS in Nederland. This included the early uniform of the Landstorm. The tunic is in excellent-plus condition. Please don’t ask size. Suffice it to say it is small. It’s extremely rare and certainly an important relic of the heroic struggle for Europe against the beast of Bolshevism by these young volunteer. As General Léon Degrelle put it so well, “The epic struggle!” We now offer this wonderful find.

Dutch Pocket Diary for 1942 from Krupp (Item NETH 2-2)

DESCRIPTION: This little Dutch pocket diary was formally the possession of Herr Adrianus van der Heide from Rijswijk, Netherlands. He was a member of the Dutch NSB and Nationale Jeugdstorm, later. He also, at an earlier time, was a scout in the Nederlandsche Padvinders (The Pathfinders), the Dutch Boy Scouts. Later he was a member in the National Workforce and a trooper in the Germanische-SS and the SS-Landstorm Nederland (See above articles.) The diary measures 3 x 4 inches and is covered in fine, soft, brown leather and has all the usual charts, graphs, calendars, space for phone numbers, etc., and then date-entry space on each page. He evidently never put it to use as nothing is entered, but it did come with the above items. It was distributed by the Krupp Ironworks, Rotterdam branch.

Overseas-style Cap of the Dutch NSB and Jeugdstorm Schiffchen (Item NETH 2-3)

DESCRIPTION: This cap was formerly the property of Herr Adrianus van der Heide, who was a former member of the NSB, the National Socialist Movement of the Netherlands; and the youth group under this banner known as the Nationale Jeugdstorm, the Dutch equivalent of the Hitler Youth. He also held membership in the WA, Weer Afdeelingen (Defense Section) and at some time he was a member of the Landstorm Nederland. We know he was enrolled in the Germanic SS. This was a WA cap Weerman because it has the same piping as the WA peaked cap that was in his effects and that we also offer. This cap was known as a Schiffchen or forage cap, and is red piped with the gold Wolfsangle, or ‘wolf hook’ on the front. It is a size 56 according to a tag at the back. It is in extra-fine condition (no mothing). It is, of course, a very important museum piece and considered quite scarce.

Peaked Cap of the WA (Weer Afdeelingen) (Item NETH 2-4)

DESCRIPTION: The WA was the Defense Sections or Storm Troopers of the NSB formed in 1932. This peaked cap was formerly the property of Adrianus van der Heide born at Rijswijk, Holland. He was at various times a member of the NSB (Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging (NS Movement). He was also enlisted in the organization that was the equivalent of the German Hitler Youth, the Nationale Jeugdstorm. He was a member of the WA, Weer Afdeelingen (Defense Section) and this cap is part of his uniform from that time. More about this man can be seen in our writings in connection with the items seen in the above listings. See especially the albums that belonged to him. The cap is piped in red thus the wearer was a Weerman (trooper) and it bears the partially embroidered cap badge. Since he was of noncommissioned rank he did not wear the lion shield that would be worn above. The triangle bears the metallic Wolfsangle or ‘wolf’s hook.’ The cap is in extra-fine condition throughout with no mothing. The liner and leather sweatband show careful usage. The leather chinstrap is a bit scuffed, but still intact and strong. The brim is in great shape also. It size small. All in all, the is an extremely rare relic of NS history having belonged to a true Bewegungslauber and European patriot.

Uniform Patch for the Germanic SS (Item NETH 2-5)

DESCRIPTION: This is the official patch of the Dutch SS. This was begun as a “police” rather than a military formation. The uniform was the basic black one of the NSB, but ranks worn on the left collar were an exact facsimile of those of the German original. This patch bears the Wolfsangle, wolf’s hook. The patch is large measuring 3 1/2 inches at each side and forms a triangle made in a felt material and is very fine condition. On the back are grommets so it could be quickly attached or unattached and some other NSB insignia could be substituted. This is a really rare WWII relic.

Commemorative Plaquette from the Netherlands (Item NETH 2-6)

DESCRIPTION: This plaque, or what some consider a rather large commemorative medal, celebrates the 50th anniversary of the return of William VI—Prince of Orange (1813-1815) and later, King William I (1815-1840)—to reestablish the monarchy. This is a very dramatic round metallic plaquette made with the electrotype process of the time (1863) depicting Prince William and his five supporters rowed ashore to a crowded beach. ”Geen Nederland Zonder Oranje” is seen on the scroll below the crest of the Royal House of Orange and the names of William’s trusted and loyal supporters are seen surrounding the edges of the plaquette with the date 1813-1863. It measures 10 inches in diameter in an ebonized frame. It is superbly made in deep relief and with much fine detail. It’s extremely fine and extremely rare.
