Prodigiously Rare Hoffman Book Entitled Germany in Paris (Item RAREBOOK 2-1) |
DESCRIPTION: This book is in four languages: French, German, Italian, and English. It is the whole story of the German Third-Reich exhibition in France called “Germany in Paris.” It was the Deutsches Haus or “German House,” or, as often called, “The German Pavilion” and what a spectacular edifice it was. It was designed by Albert Speer, Hitler’s chief architect, with the will and enthusiasm of the Führer, Adolf Hitler. It was considered a new monument to the new National Socialist architectural genre and was considered a prototypical design for future construction in Germany. The German people were justifiably proud of the wonderful building with its exterior and interior magnificence. This was built for the International Exhibition in Paris in 1937, and this extremely rare book lays out fantastic explanations and photos of the German Trade and Industry displays both in words and fantastic photography as only Dr. Hoffman could do. Comprised of 126 pages this book is very complete. The binding is a bit distressed, but holding well. I know of no other book in the world that visits this subject so vividly, if at all! The latest in 1937 of auto motorists, construction and shipping, and the arts are lavishly displayed in plush black-and-white crisp photography. The pictures of the stained-glass windows and other beautiful objects are nothing short of breathtaking. The paintings, the porcelains, the furniture couldn’t have been easily matched by any other culture (magnificence personified!). This book was never marketed or sold; it was presented selectively by the foreign-office committee of the Reich for tourist travel in Berlin. It was probably given to a person who visited the exhibition. Inside the book is a sheet of paper (original) that is separate from the book’s pages that announces this gift with friendly sentiments with an invitation for the receiver to pay a visit to beautiful Germany: “The pleasure at your visit will be ours and we welcome you gratefully and sincerely and it be our earnest endeavor to make your stay as agreeable and enjoyable as possible so that you may take the best impressions home with you.” This invitation is with the four languages just as everything else is in the book. One of the most interesting pictures is of the transparent man; a masterpiece of the German Museum of Hygiene in Dresden, which was later demolished along with multi-thousands of “transparent” people in Dresden by order of the beast, “Bomber Harris,” of England with Churchill’s willing consent (I just thought we needed that footnote.). This is considered one of the rarest books in the N.S. field or in the realm of scarce collector books in general. The price might seem high to you but consider its prodigious rarity. You could look from now to Doomsday and never, never see another copy of this book; it is just that rare, and a wonderful memento of the glorious days of the German Reich's grandeur and its attempt to be a brother nation to all Western lands and peoples. (“Festung Europa”!)

Book Säuberung des Kunsttempels (Purging the Temples of Art) by Wolfgang Willrich. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||
DESCRIPTION: STOP! . . . and hopefully reflect on the findings of the N.S. association for the preservation of Aryan culture. What follows is its description and explanation of what constitutes degeneracy in art. This is one of the rarest and most-sought-after books ever published in the Third Reich. Produced in the year 1937 (a banner year for the Third Reich), there was at that time an exhibition in Berlin known as Die Ausstellung “Entartete Kunst” translated as The Degenerate-Art Exhibition. It was actually organized by Adolf Ziegler and the “Party” (The National Socialist German Workers’ Party) and ran from July 19 to November 30, 1937. The exhibit presented 650 so-called “works of art” from German museums and was presented in counterpoint and contrast to the current great German art exhibition. The day before the exhibition started, Hitler delivered a speech declaring merciless war against cultural disintegration by attacking chatterboxes, dilettantes, and art swindlers. Degenerate art was defined as works that insult traditional German mores and cultural tradition or destroy or confuse natural form, or simply reveal a complete absence of adequate manual and artistic skill. One million people attended the exhibition in its first six weeks. A U.S. critic commented, “There are plenty of people, true art lovers in Boston and throughout the U.S., who will stand with and absolutely side with Hitler in this particular purge.” Hitler had a passionate critique of modern art and its practitioners. He (and this author) perceived them to be incompetents, cheats, and madmen! A commission was formed with Adolf Ziegler as its chairman and toured various art museums in several cities seizing 5,238 so-called art pieces that they deemed degenerate showing qualities such as decadence, weakness of character, mental disease, and racial impunity. The commission especially focused on works by ‘artists’ mentioned in avant-garde publications and was aided by some vehement steady opponents of modern art such as the famed art master of the realistic art form, Wolfgang Willrich. Many of the lowest and horrid canvases by such dubious luminaries such as Georg Kolbe, Paul Klee, Marc Chagril, and (“UGH!”) Pablo Picasso abound. About 20,000 persons per day attended the exhibition. On the walls accompanying the oil and watercolor trash were signs proclaiming sentiments and slogans, for example:
*Insolent mockery of the divine (and Christian)
*Revelation of the Jewish racial soul
*Insult to German womanhood
*The ideal–Cretin and Whore
*Deliberate sabotage of national defense
*German farmers–a Yiddish view
*Madness becomes method
*Nature as seen by sick minds
*Even bigwigs dared to call this trash the art of the German people.
All in all, the idea was well carried that modernism was a conspiracy by those who would harm German decency. After the exhibition closed in 1937, the REAL artist, Wolfgang Willrich, put together the volume we now offer. It is basically a summation of the Entartete Kunst exhibition with running commentary from this man who is possibly the greatest artist in realism that Germany had seen since Albrecht Durer. Willrich had published several books that graphically portray the nobility and beauty of the Aryan race and Germans in particular. His illustrations are so vivid, so real, as to be practically spiritual in the physiognomy displayed. No Nordic person who is conscious of his beginnings can look upon Willrich’s painting of Germanic peasant folk, the children, the aged, the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and elite troops without a special pride swelling up in the breast. And of course alternatively the traditional enemy experiences the same emotion that the vampire experiences when suddenly confronted by a crucifix! No art critic or historian could have been better chosen to do a review of the exhibition from the standpoint of critique. Here was Herr Willrich the man considered the shining light of beautiful renderings of humanity looking at the dark side of art, the stuff straight from Hell! The book contains about 170 pages with 64 illustrations. You will notice the Irminsul in the center of the opening title page indicating that this might have been an Ahnenerbe publication and it was published by the J. Lehmanns Verlag in Berlin 1938. This company published several Ahnenerbe-certified books in the 1930s. The book is in fine condition with original dustcover preserved by the former collector who covered it with plastic. Its size is 6 ½ x 9 inches and I assure you it is a very highly sought-after volume throughout Europe, especially in Germany and Austria where a revisionist awakening appears to be taking hold. It is one of the absolutely rarest N.S. books extant today. In 50 years, I have not seen another available. The price is most reasonable considering its content and its extreme rarity.
PRICE: $700.00; At this point in time it is probably unique! |

Book Männer und Waffen des deutschen Heeres 1941 (Item RAREBOOK 2-5; ART 18-1; WEHR 33-23) |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
DESCRIPTION: Here is the best and finest art collection of the entire Second World War in book form. Here we present the war-art etchings of Reich’s artist Josef Arens (1901-1979). A screw, a bolt, the "smallest detail,” everything was registered by the eye of the artist. Arens became a war illustrator in 1939 and Adolf Hitler, who all his life had wanted to embrace art, commissioned him as the official army war artist. Arens progressed right along with the German army, registering with meticulous care all of its heroic actions in his drawings. He took photographs and sketches, which later turned into works of art; all those drawings had targeted the desktop of the Führer, but with the fall of Germany his artistic renderings became war booty. When they advanced on the Rhine, U.S. troops made a POW of this notable German artist and seized his collection of drawings. “I'm against the war. I wanted to show the ruin, the destruction, the waste," Arens declared to his American captors. According to what was reported in the Spanish journal Excelsior, "Arens painted with masterly hands the ravages of war and the heroism of the German soldier.” Why was he held by the Yanks? Because it was deemed by army “intelligence” that his drawings glorified the enemy war effort and although that was a stretch, his drawings did glorify the German military tradition. Adolf Hitler entrusted him to perform a graphical history of the war and the German people were able to learn much about the war through the books like the one we offer here. However, these German drawings were not just ordinary; they were nothing short of spectacular! In addition to the ability to capture detail, the artist was concerned about capturing the reality of the war, and he did think that the war that was forced upon his fatherland was a sublime atrocity in itself: "I tried to paint soldiers as they are. Propaganda does not intervene in my drawings. Everything is presented as I saw it, making use of the sketches made in the field of battle and the photographs that I took,” said Arens. The most amazing thing of lithographs is the pathos, but also the nationalist pride that can be seen in the way that Arens observes the German soldier. In these drawings, admirable revelation is observed in these German soldiers: not merely to the victorious warrior, but also the details to the wondrous and advanced equipment and weapons available through Teutonic ingenuity and scientific advancement that was so far ahead of its time. Arens described himself as a "man of gentle face.” It is not difficult to imagine the artist as he carries his camera, notebook and pencils nestled in every corner, that could give him some security while surveying the scene with suspense and trepidation in his heart while trying to record every detail as he viewed them. From the siege of Rotterdam until the withdrawal in France, each step of the German forces was registered by his pencil. The drawings were hailed at the time as the "most amazing scenes of war that were known to date.” The description of the scenes in the pages of this book are replete with moving passion and with these very limited editions the Germans had demonstrated to the world their excellence at warfare tempered with courage and largely the thought remains that this Deutsche Wehrmacht was viewed at the time as an unbeatable army—terrible at warfare, but always honorable to the last. Please don’t even bother to mention alleged atrocities until you have availed yourself of the knowledge of the same and worst committed by the allied forces against the Germans. Arens’ charcoal drawings sometimes were fierce; for instance, the drawing of the moment in which the artillery soldiers activated a giant mortar, accurately delineated, and it ably exemplifies that Teutonic marshal spirit: The weapon was of such power that some of the gunners used a long lanyard to accelerate the firing and had to be crouching among the weeds rather aware of the mighty impact achieved. Many such superb and moving details appear in the drawings of Josef Arens. The book is in large format and measures 12 by 10 inches. It has 45 pages of text describing one after the other the following drawings and an explanation of the great conflict and the role of the German Wehrmacht Heeres. Then there are 40 full-page illustrations accomplished as only Josef Arens could ever do. The book is in excellent * plus condition and the beautiful cover is crafted in a fine textured cloth material. This without a doubt is the most sought-after art book that chronicles the life and style of the noble German Landser in his element. Vorwärts meiner Kinder!: Field Marshal (Pa-Pa) Blucher, 1813.

Generaloberst “Hans” von Seeckt: Various Ephemera (Item RAREBBOOK 2-5; PERS 5-27; WWI 13-5; WEHR 33-26) |
|||||
DESCRIPTION: Johannes Friedrich “Hans” von Seeckt (April 1866-December 1936) was an important historical personage and German military officer noted for his organization of the German Army (Reichswehr) during the Weimer Republic. He was a thorough aristocrat. He joined the army in 1885 at the age of 18 and served in the elite Kaiser Alexander Guard Grenadiers and then joined the Prussian General Staff in 1897 at the outbreak of the First World War. Seeckt held the rank of colonel and served as chief of staff in the Third Army Corps. Seeckt marched with the corps in the WWI German offensive and distinguished himself in fighting near Soissons, then in March 1915, he became chief of staff to General von Mackensen of the German Eleventh Army. Seeckt fought in the Gorlice-Tarnów Offensive, where he was credited with engineering Mackensen’s breakthrough and he received the Pour le Mérite, Prussia’s highest military honor. In June 1915, Seeckt was promoted to the rank of general-major and on 1 September he became chief of staff for the Austro-Hungarian Seventh Army in Galicia. Reichswehr After the end of the war and the dissolution of the old Imperial Army it fell to Seeckt to organize the new Reichswehr within the strict restrictions composed by the Treaty of Versailles. He successfully laid the basis for a strong Reichswehr and disguised the new leadership effectively with the forbidden general staff, under the name the Truppenamt, or Troop Office. He is also known for this hostile attitude towards the Second Polish Republic, and he was all for seeking an alliance with the Soviet Union against Poland. After seeing encouraging signs from the newly established War Commissar’s Office of Leon Trotsky, Seeckt sent out members of a secret staff to conduct a military alliance with the Soviets, unbeknownst to the Weimar government. After the Allies sent the German government a list of “war criminals” to be tried, Seeckt called a conference of staff officers and department heads on February 9, 1920, and said to them that if the German government refused or was unable to reject the Allied demands, the Reichswehr must oppose this by all means even if this meant the reopening of hostilities! He further said that if the Allies invaded Germany—he believed they would not—then the German army in the West should retire behind the Weser and the Elbe, as this was where defensive positions had already been built. In the East, German troops would invade Poland and attempt to establish contacts with the Soviet Union, wherein they would both march against France and Britain. He added that German war material would now no longer be sold or destroyed and that the army should be refused on paper only. An interior minister of Prussia, Albert Grzesinski, wrote that members of Seeck’s staff said that Seeckt desired a military dictatorship, perhaps headed by Gustav Noske. Seeckt’s role during the Kapp Putsch of March 1920, remains uncertain; he refused to either actively put down the rebellion or cooperate with it. His remark to the leaders of the republic, that “Reichswehr do not fire on Reichswehr”, was controversial. From 1920 to 1926, Seeckt held the position of Chef der Heeresleitung—in fact if not in name, commander of the army of the new Weimar Republic Reichswehr. He was working to build a nonpolitical professional army as a state within a state. He was an admirer of the British concept of a small, highly trained, regular army within which political activity was forbidden. This matched the conditions of the Versailles Treaty which was aimed at creating a long-term, professional army with a ceiling of 100,000 volunteers and without significant reserve; a force which would not be able to challenge the much larger French Army. Seeckt was a monarchist by personal inclination who encouraged the retention of traditional links with the old Imperial Army. With this purpose he designated individual companies and squadrons of the new Reichswehr as the direct successors of particular regiments of the emperor’s army. After Seeckt had met Adolf Hitler for the first time on March 11, 1923, he wrote: “We were as one in our aim; only our paths were different.” However, he firmly resisted Hitler’s Putsch on November 8-9, 1923, insisting that the Bavarian Division of the Reichswehr remain loyal to the Republic. He strongly opposed the Locarno Treaties, which he viewed as appeasement of France and was skeptical of German membership in the League of Nations because he thought it was selling out to West Germany’s connections with Russia. Seeckt was eventually forced to resign on October 9, 1926, after permitting Prince Wilhelm, the grandson of the former emperor, to attend army maneuvers in the uniform of the old Imperial First Guards without first seeking government approval. While running the military, von Seeckt only allowed skilled men to be in the 100,000-man army. He locked them into a mandatory 12 years of confirmed military service with full board and pay, allowing for a stability that rarely existed in the midst of massive economic depression of Germany. He gained the loyalty of his men by paying them six times the amount of a French soldier. Von Seeckt made the training standards of the Reichswehr the toughest in the world. He trained them in antiair and antitank battles by creating wooden weapons and staging mock battles under the guise of training the soldiers for reintroduction into civilian life. Von Seeckt disciplined this small army much differently than past German armies. Rather than beat or shoot a soldier for infractions, von Seeckt forced minor offenders to spend off-hour duties lying under a bed and singing old Lutheran hymns. The chief also had his men taught in seemingly useless topics like horse anatomy and the art of beekeeping to allow them to be citizens with skills as well as military support crews. Later Years: From 1930 to 1932, Seeckt sat in the Reichstag as a member of the DVP, after failing to be adopted as a candidate for the Centre Party. In the presidential election of 1932, he wrote his sister, urging her to vote for Hitler. From 1934 to 1935, he served as an adviser to Chiang Kai-shek. However, on returning to Germany from China he became disillusioned with Hitler. Contained in this offering is a book by Hans von Seeckt entitled Gedanken eines Soldaten (Thoughts of a Soldier). It comprises 157 pages of text with a nice picture of the author on the first page. It’s in almost mint condition and measures 6 ¼ x 9 inches. The book is dedicated in the first inner page to Mr. John Fletcher Hurst commemorating a meeting in Berlin in 1932, and again in 1936, signed by hand in ink by von Seeckt. Also, there is an invitation for the Fletcher family to visit the von Seeckt home at 9:30 in the evening on a Tuesday in March and we assume this was the 1936 meeting when the book was presented. The formal visit was requested by both Herr and Frau von Seeckt. There is a noted music reference. There is also a postcard that pictures some eighteenth-century Chinese artifacts and it is sent with postal cancellation to Mr. J. Fletcher Hurst in Paris. Seeckt wrote in French to Hurst and thanks him for a certain souvenir and he dates it 1935 and hand signs it. Why do I spend so much time and effort to present this particular group of ephemera? Because this old and noble Prussian monarchist was the very epitome of the spirit of Frederick the Great, Blucher, Scharnhorst, et al. When one looks at him with his monocle staring back, you can almost hear the refrain of Deutschland, Deutschland über alles. PRICE: $385.00; Price for the group |

Book Alfred Rosenberg, 1893-1946, Der Mythus of the 20th Century from SS Library (Item RAREBOOK 2-9; GEN 9-13; SS 23-5) |
||
DESCRIPTION: Here is the great book from the party philosopher Alfred Rosenberg. He called this treatise an evaluation of the spiritual confrontation of our age. Rosenberg has been called an inspired and endowed sear and his book A Fountainhead of Fundamental Precepts in the Field of Human History, Religion, and Cultural Philosophy is almost overwhelming in magnitude. The NSDAP view of this immortal work is that “The myth is the myth of the blood, which under the sign of the swastika, released the world revolution, it is the awakening of the racial soul, which after a period of slumber, victoriously put an end to racial chaos.” Rosenberg held several important posts in the NS government including Reichsminister for the newly liberated territories. As such it is duly and historically recorded that Alfred Rosenberg’s constant conflict with the SS and the Reichskomissariats headed by such leaders as Eric Koch over the treatment of Slavs under German occupation. Having been born in a non-German country and having been married to an ethnic Estonian, Rosenberg was appalled at the displacement and enslavement of persons in these occupied eastern countries. In 1945, he was captured by allied troops and tried at the Nuremberg star-chamber trials with every charge the tribunal could throw willy nilly against him. He walked firmly, proudly, to his execution and in the firm conviction that he, like Julius Streicher, was being hanged there at Nuremberg not for actual war crimes, but for what they had said and written. Is it so different now? The book is considered rare on booksellers’ lists.

Book München vom Wesen Einer Deutschen Stadt, Hauptstadt der Bewegung (Item RAREBOOK 2-11; GEN 10-16) |
||||||||||||||
DESCRIPTION: The book Saga of the Nature of a City, Head City of the Movement has a print cover with a statement that seems to translate to something like: “To say it cannot be done is not the German way!” This book sums up in words and pictures the spirit of this the greatest, most fun-loving, art-appreciating, and spiritual city of Europe. Especially in the Third Reich Munich showed its deep inner spirit. But to the NSDAP and its leader, Adolf Hitler, Munich was the inner soul of the German nation. Berlin was the nation’s capital city, but Munich was the heart and spirit of the National Socialist Bewegung (movement). It was there that the NSDSAP was born. It was there that the Putschists of November 9, 1923, laid down their lives at the Feldherrenhalle. Old Munich is reflected in the gorgeous architecture of the past: churches, palaces, stately castles, and mansions abound and contrast with the new NSDAP buildings that meet in happy union with the glorious past. Buildings by Troost and Speer grace the gorgeous Haupstadt. Featured is the grand parade to open Paul Ludwig Troost’s House of German Art. The parade was the greatest culture lineup the world had even seen. Two thousand years of Germanic art and culture with floats, actors, reenactors, etc. Much of the book is dedicated to German art, old and new. Very unfortunately four of the finest of the picture pages were stuck together at some point during the past 70 years, and dime-sized scars are the result (they would be on the Third Reich’s most important buildings in the Königsplatz) Interestingly enough the captions under the great pictures are in German, Italian, French, and English. The book was published in 1937 and has 133 pages of text and superb pictures, photos, and drawings—culture, culture, and more culture! It measures 8 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches and other than the slight damage to those four pages, the book is in wonderful shape.

Book 1000 Pictures from 75 Years of German History (Item RAREBOOK 2-13; GEN 6-1) |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
DESCRIPTION: This giant book is possibly the most rare Third Reich book ever offered on the web. It was published (officially) by the military association of Fürstenwalder on the River Spree near Leipzig. No book ever published was as complete with the "whole" story of what the war was about working up through the period 1914-1918: the empires, the struggles, the war, the leaders, the battles, etc., and then the end: the inflation, revolution, the freeing of the people and saving the country by the Freebooters and the N.S. Party and then the coming of the Third Reich and that is broken into three parts: 1, the way to power; 2, the realization of power; 3, the fallen of the struggle. The pictures are no less than phenomenal with some (most) never published before. The section of martyrs of the Kampfzeit is most moving. Men, boys, and some heroic women are pictured--some in their caskets and some with grotesque wounds inflicted by red front gangsters. About 295 individual pictures document those who fell for Führer and Fatherland; mostly SA men who were foully murdered by communists and socialists who were later soundly defeated until they were reinstalled by the 1945 victors. This is a treasure of a book that should be archived for the true edification of future generations. Very rare!

Unser Familien Buch Album (Item RAREBOOK 2-15; GEN 14-17) |
DESCRIPTION: Here in practically stone mint condition is the “Ahnenbuch,” The family book for members of the NSDAP (Nazi Party). These books are certainly rare today especially in this condition -- can you say mint? They had a limited issue and were generally presented by the NSDAP block leader to deserving families for special service to the N.S. community. They were actually serial numbered that’s how important they were. They were a gorgeous artistic production with entry pages for every aspect of the family’s life and participation in the Third Reich of Adolf Hitler. They had the approval of the Rassenpolitischenamtes of the NSDAP. (See the enameled sign that we feature elsewhere on the site. It is from the above mentioned racial politics office.) The pages are in a beautiful parchment stock. The numerous pages open with a moving statement by the Fuhrer having to do with the importance of the preservation of family history. Followed by three pages of very meaningful sentiment on that particular theme. It then goes into page after page of family heritage records but they were never filled out -- the album is unissued. The professionalism is obvious, the layout is spectacular. There are fold out pages for information and photos from the homeland of the persons. Father and mother, then his/her birth and the births of relatives. His military service, his service to his country and his photos of his father, mother, homeland, marriages, anniversaries of family members. (Places for “Ahnen” (ancestors) his schooling and school friends.) The geography of all kin, with maps. Charts about his teeth, body and health. The first years of his /her children, his school grades, his service in the Hitler Youth or the Bund Das Deutschen Madchen. His occupation histories, his service in the German Labor Corps, awards that he has won, various houses and homes, pictures and experiences from his labor corp service. Their son, their daughters, pictures and life story. The children’s first year, their grades in school and the children’s service in HJ-BDM. The son’s service in the Wehrmacht. Their family’s service in the social welfare orginizations. Throughout the pages of the book you will see the logo of the RDK (the Reichs-bund Deutsche Familie) and it is embossed on the back cover. It is a depiction of the National eagle symbol that perches on the letters “RDF”. The book is held together with large screws so that the book can be easily disassembled for effective and neat entries to be written and photos applied. We have said that the album is practically stone mint. ‘Stop’ While writing this description I noticed pin head size blotches of wear at the very bottom and the top of the spine (hardly noticeable). Here is an item that could be considered the very essence of the social agenda of the N.S. Movement and what they considered their sacred core valves. Truly a historical Treasure for the Germanophile PRICE: SOLD |

Unser Familienbuch (Item RAREBOOK 2-15a) |
DESCRIPTION: Similar to the one above, this is another record of family history in the form of a book. This one is not nearly as elaborate as the one above; it's a simpler version and covers the same themes and pages for a family history. It includes some full-page quotes by Adolf Hitler concerning genetics, patriotism, and the importance of marriage and culture. In other words, the Nordic and European opposite of the degenerative vestiges of woke and cancel culture. This family record volume is indeed not as impressive as the Item 2-15 volume. Actually, we think that that one was party sanctioned, but would have been privately purchased in the deluxe-edition volume, while this one would have been issued by the NSDAP to its members. The book truly represents the importance of the party, and promoted the nuclear family as the most important social unit for the preservation of the Aryan race!!! The Album It measures 12 x 8½ inches and is in generally good shape (especially the pages), but there is some separation at the base of the spine measuring about two inches long, but it's not going any further. The depth measures 1¼ inches. The pages are not filled in (the album was never issued). As we have already said, these Familienbücher are quite scarce; especially the blank ones. Don’t miss this if you would want to be a family recorder. "No people live longer than the documentation of their culture!!!" PRICE: $300.00 |

Book Entitled Deutschland ich liebe Dich (Germany, I Love You) (Item RAREBOOK 2-16; GEN 14-22) |
DESCRIPTION: If there are those who could truly call themselves Germanophiles, they would have to have this book. All of what it means to be Deutsche is summed up beautifully in these pages. The beauty of the land, its people, its monuments, and the exuberance of the Volk in the era of the Third Reich are chronicled here; the Imperium of what we called the West. The book comprises 223 pages of hundreds of beautiful black-and-white images, and was copyrighted in 1935, one of the greatest years of the N.S. Reich. We cannot begin to effectively describe the feeling one gets if he or she is in love with the Vaterland, especially at that time—the time of Germany’s greatest past glory. The noble faces, the friendly people, the grand past all come together in this beautiful volume. On page 117 there is a picture of the newspaper king William Randolph Hearst as he walks the lovely streets of Rothenberg on Taube, while across the main entrance of the town is strung the American flag. The Germans loved America and its people regardless of its communist-inspired president who constantly worked toward a goal of exterminating Germany and Germans. The statuary, the soldiers and sailors, the farm folk, the factory workers, the youth, all bring a picture of vitality and pride in race, nation, and Führer. This is a delightful book, indeed. It has a linen cover and measures 7 ½ x 9 inches and is in very excellent shape.

Greatest Set of Books Ever Written and Produced in the Third Reich (Item RAREBOOK 2-19) |
DESCRIPTION: Das Dritte Reich is the title of a set of extremely rare books. We have the pilot edition–“1918-1933.” This one has the asterisk, while the other five volumes are enumerated with Roman numerals I-V and are dated 1933 through 1937, respectively—six volumes in all. These volumes are, in essence, yearbooks. Inside the covers of each book, the publication date corresponds with the outside bindings.
The dagger king, Tom Wittmann, for whom I have much respect and admiration, has a set of these marvelous books on his site “Wittman Antique Militaria” ( http://www.wwiidaggers.com/welcome.htm). He even has the 1938 edition. These books were published annually and the original owner of this set kept up with them through 1937. The books are all leather bound and have finely gilded titles. They are, of course, in the German language and average about 400 pages each; at the end of each book are approximately 50 pages of great black-and-white photographs. If you don’t read German please remember the saying: “One picture is worth a thousand words.” These books contain hundreds and hundreds of great photos many of which this historian has never seen, and I have seen many, many thousands of Third Reich photos. There are countless exciting ones depicting the events of each year of what we call the “Kampfzeit” (the struggle for power) and the early years of the Machtergreifung (the ascension to power) of the National Socialist party. As Wittmann has said, these books are a treasure trove of information especially for someone who reads German. Tom then says this set of books could be an outstanding asset to a military library. He says it is a great opportunity to acquire a very important set of historical volumes. I will add to that the fact that I believe my set is in the finest condition I have ever see, but then in five years I have only seen three sets and mine is by far the best I’ve ever encountered. Now, I don’t like to compare, but the set that Mr. Wittmann has does not come close to the condition of ours. I will suggest that you go to his site and look at the set seen there. If condition speaks volumes to you then I have to ask that you would compare. PRICE: $1,000.00; Condition, condition, condition |

Germanische Jugend (Extremely Rare) (Item RAREBOOK 2-20; YOUTH 10-15) |
DESCRIPTION: This is a beautiful volume of 63 pages of photos and text having to do with the racial purity of the German youth (Schriftenreihe für Rasse und Reich). Within the pages are beautiful portrait pictures beginning with a great profile picture of the Führer. Then there are many pictures of Aryan youth from Norway, Denmark, and Germany. Some are full page and the photography is phenomenal. You also will see statuary by Arnold Breker that depicts the absolute beauty of Aryan folk. One of my favorite pictures brings out East is East and West is West and never the twain shall meet. The picture shows a Waffen-SS soldier in typical camo outfit accepting the surrender of a Mongolian barbarian enlistee in Stalin’s army. There are quite a few pictures of Aryan competitors in Olympic-style sports. There are several full-page pictures of members of the women’s BDM (Bund Deutscher Mädel) in sports achievements. There are quite a few large pictures of Hitler youth and NSKK activities including glider sports. There are two pages devoted to the marine Hitler youth (dramatic!). The book is in large format as are most of the pictures measuring 9½ x 12 inches. I would say that this book is extremely rare and subject matter is extremely important to any person who wishes to view the Third Reich in its true perspective.

Wartime Log: A Chronicle from a German Prisoner of War (Item RAREBOOK 2-24; WEHR 35-1) |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
DESCRIPTION: This seems to be a booklet issued by the POW commission to German prisoners of war that they could use to record their memories of their incarceration. This book with linen cover measures 7 x 9½ x ½ inch thick. It is in immaculate condition and was obviously owned by a prisoner whose first name was Günther. It seems that in 1946, he was still a prisoner in an American POW camp. It opens with a piece of artwork with a sword and keys and the exclamation “Meine Erinnerungen” (My Memories). On the next page there is a long letter (full-page message) dated in 1946 from a comrade in “Läger 4” of the camp. Following this letter are several more from fellow prisoners. On page 13, there is a letter from Fritz Crutina. Fritz says to Günther: “Whenever you think back to Babenhausen, we hope you will remember these happy hours that we had in camp office ‘Hamburg’ and that they helped us to get on in these days; may we remember these happy days. Babenhausen September 3, 1946.” (Babenhausen was the camp that these men were interned in before being sent to America and was under the control of the 106th Infantry Division.) It seems that Günther was a POW in several camps in Germany before he was sent to the U.S. for confinement. Thank God he was not in any of the Rhine camps where IKE, with ugly malice aforethought, purposely changed the prisoner designation and in so doing doomed over a million German prisoners to a horrible death (starvation and lack of any shelter, whatsoever.) Do we still say: “I like IKE”? Below are some of the entries written in the log by POWs—other Deutsche Soldaten—who were with Günther in some of the camps. Alfons Bartsch says: “May you find the friend that is worth living for; may you find the job for the one you created; may you be proud of your nation forever.” July 30, 1946. “Respect and trust are the pillars of life. Without respect there can be no trust and without trust there is no love.” August 3, 1946 Helmut Kuhnert. Erich Riegers says: “Memories are like a paradise in that they stay forever.” Leopold Rost says: “If you want to be happy in life, help others to be happy, too. The joy of other people’s happiness returns to your heart.” “Dear Günther, despite your forced removal from Germany, I am thankful that I found in you the best that I could find of a human being. The loss of my health is not a burden to me now. All the very best, your comrade, Gerd Verhoop." G.W. Verhoop Wassennaar (Holland), Lange Kekdam 80. There are quite a few more letters from there to page 71. Then there is a color picture drawn by Günther introducing several pages of wonderful and humorous cartoons that are nothing short of professional. Folded within the pages is a special cartoon showing a boy playing a musical instrument, while his dog howls out the words of the little ditty. If this man were around today, he could be well paid by a magazine or newspaper as a major cartoonist; he was that good. PRICE: $450.00 |

Book Entitled Karl Berthold: Ein Deutscher Goldschmied by Adolf Feulner (Item RAREBOOK 2-25;ART 18-11) |
DESCRIPTION:This is a rare original art book from the Third Reich, not a reprint! The master goldsmith Karl Berthold and his talented artist wife Maria Schmidt-Kugel turned out some truly artistic masterpieces in their time. Karl (1889-1975) came from a family of goldsmiths in Bavaria where he was first trained. He became a teacher for goldsmithing at the Staatliche Zeichenakademie in Hanau and Werkkunstschule in Cologne. After the war, his studio was in the Carmelite Cloisters in Reisach, Upper Bavaria (1945-1951) and later Oberaudorf/Inn. His designs were heavily inspired by Renaissance and Baroque art for which he more-than-excelled in. During the German Third Reich, he reached the Imperium of his magnificent perfection in art. Not too long ago a ring showed up in the collector field. It was a fantastic jeweled piece no doubt the most overwhelming piece of N.S.-connected jewelry ever found to date. It was said to have been a gift to Adolf Hitler; however, there was quite a donnybrook over it and one old grizzled and well-known crook in Charlottesville, Virginia, said the ring was an outright fantasy piece and it never existed let alone being a gift to the Führer. Well on page 62 of this period book, there it is, an image of the ring with the caption: “Ring aus Gold mit Rubinen. 1930 Im Berlin des Führers.” This obviously is the very same ring, but considering some of the sleazy characters involved in the handling and selling of it, suspicions are surely understood. The ring eventually brought $66,000, but unfortunately at an auction house owned and managed by the dirtiest crook in the business. The Book The book is in excellent condition with original dust cover. It was probably published in December 1939. It has 83 pages of photographs of Berthold’s masterpieces to include a wonderful large fold-out “dream scene” that might have been inspired by Hitler’s vision of the future of Berlin as GERMANIA. This fantastic three-dimensional model (see our images) was presented to Adolf Hitler in 1939 for his birthday. The book measures 10 1/2 x 8 inches and is in near-mint condition. We know of no other original copy available anywhere. This is an incredibly rare edition. PRICE: $350.00; absolute original N.S.-period copy; not a reprint! |

Der Goldschmied Möhler (The Goldsmith Möhler); An Original Rare Edition (Item RAREBOOK 2-26; ART 18-12) |
DESCRIPTION:Here is one of the most beautiful and important books we have ever handled. It is a very limited printing in 1941 in Stuttgart with 45 wonderful jeweled masterpieces—please underline masterpieces!. Herr Möhler was absolutely uncontested in his field as the greatest master worker and jeweler in his home gallery and workshop in Schwäbisch Gmünd, a town in the eastern part of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Accompanying each photo is a poetic verbiage having to do with the fantastic item viewed. On the opening pages is a picture of the Lord Mayor of Schwäbisch Gmünd wearing the most beautiful chain of office his (Neuen Amtskette) made by Herr Möhler. It is proudly worn by Oberbürgermeister F J. Konrad and on the left facing page is a poem dedicated to the Schwäbischlande. The next two pages show close-ups of the main fob of this the greatest Bürgermeisterkette ever designed and produced in the Third Reich. Then there are many more beautiful black-and-white professional photos of other masterworks by this master goldsmith and silversmith, Fritz Möhler: Pokals, Becher, exquisite finger rings all with appropriate poetic quotations appearing throughout the pages. On page 23 there is a magnificent eight-position candelabra that particularly stands out. On pages 25 and 26, you will see the most stunning piece of equestrian jewelry that we have ever seen. It is a highly stylized portrayal of a unicorn that is part and parcel of the arms of Schwaben Gmünd. It’s much too complex to describe here (see photos). There is another beautiful mayor’s chain of office made in silver and plated in gold shown on page 57 and it was for the Oberbürgermeister of the city of Reutlingen. On page 47 is a plaque that has the gorgeous full arms of the famed elector of Schwäbisch Gmünd. If there is a title given to the master jeweler of all time, it would belong to Carl Fabergé, but he would be in a near tie with Fritz Möhler. This book is in mint condition.
PRICE: $325.00. There are copies of this title available on Amazon, but this is the original hardbound, PERIOD edition for the serious collector. |
Very Special Children’s Schoolbook on the Life and Career of Adolf Hitler |
DESCRIPTION: We can’t stress enough the rarity of this beautiful book. When the Third Reich was finally murdered, the very first act of the victors’ Denazification Program was the removal and subsequent burning of all books, posters, and writings reminiscent of the N.S. Reich–especially in the schools. The job was so effectively thorough that in almost all cases not a single such schoolbook survived this terrible conflagration. The book that we are fortunate enough to offer is a Schul-Ausgabe (special school edition or output). The printing that can for the most part cannot be read by modern German graduates is called Sütterlin script and was taught in the schools in the time of the Third Reich. The N.S. educators referred to it as Aryan script. The title of the book translates from the Sütterlin script to A True story The book was published in Stuttgart in 1936. This was a very special edition that would remain in the classroom and it would be a teaching guide that was read aloud by the instructor while pictures from a slide projector with the same scenes were shown to the children. The book itself was put before certain students that wanted to write various theses on the subject and the theme was the life of the Führer Adolf Hitler. We are practically certain that thousands of these books were put to the fire, but this one was snatched by a G.I. (one of the destroyers) as his war trophy! He kept it in good order over these some 75 years or so and for this we are grateful, as you should be if you are fortunate enough to become its owner. There is a copy of it in the special collections in the libraries of the University of Washington; Juvenile Literature Section. The Book It is an artistic, pictorial work that chronicles the career of Germany’s leader Adolf Hitler from the time of his childhood in Braunau am Inn, Austria. It then tells about his favorite childhood pastimes playing soldier and reading military histories. It traces his excellence in schooling, his penchant for painting (watercolors) and sketching. It goes into his deep spiritual reverence and the sad loss of his parents. He especially loved and adored his mother. He also loved Germany and many times longingly looked across the border. So after a long sojourn in Vienna where he met hunger and hardship he learned the virtue of labor and the value of courage, patriotism, and loyalty to one’s principles. When the great war began, he moved to Bavaria, Germany, and became a soldier in the Bavarian army and was assigned to the most dangerous duty that a soldier could do, a dispatch runner and in this role he actually managed to capture a whole French platoon with a ruse that he learned by his reading the Wild West books of Karl May. In this fabulous action he won the both the Iron Cross First Class and the Iron Cross Second Class. The illustrations show that shortly after that, he became temporarily blinded by gas at the Front and was hospitalized back in Germany and the pictures show him blinded while Red Revolutionaries were beginning their uprising against the Fatherland. Then the illustrations depict his speaking to members of the DAP (German Workers’ Party) on the subject of red revolution and why it must absolutely be crushed. Then after this, the name of the group becomes the National Socialist German Workers’ Party and we see our Adolf speaking to multitudes in the public arenas. Then there is a somber picture of the crosses of the martyred dead of the Putsch of November 9, 1923, before the Feldherrenhalle followed by a picture of a writing desk in a jail cell at Landsberg where Hitler wrote Mein Kampf. After this there is a page filled with party faithful with swastika flags as the party gains power. The last page celebrates the Machtergreifung (seizure of power 30 January 1933). Here we see the figure of the Führer in a hotel window receiving a torch light tribute from overjoyed followers. The pictures we have described are all presented in an excellence of taste that would hold the innocent child’s interest and fascination and put forward in a fashion that the young folk would not only enjoy, but share with youthful enthusiasm and an incessant desire to learn more about the NSDAP and what it meant to them as potential future party members. It was a learning masterwork. The book is in extra-fine condition throughout, and measures 8¼ x 11½ inches. Propaganda? Yes, but in its day it would have been considered beneficial propaganda with proper agenda forthwith. Rare. Very rare! Below is a short then-and-now video of Austria during Hitler's youth: PRICE: $750.00 |
Extremely Rare Book on the German Weimar Period and the Early N.S. Police (Item RAREBOOK 2-28; POL 3-13; NSD 22-19) |
DESCRIPTION: Polizei greift ein: Das Ehrenbuch der Deutschen Polizei is an incredible photo history of the period of the NSDAP's struggle for power known to history as "Die Kampfzeit." The Police Fight On!; Honor Book of the German Police depicts the role of the brave German policemen who supported Hitler and the N.S. movement in that darkest hours during the struggle against the Red mobs that tried to capture Germany and then, of course, all of Europe. The book begins with graphic images of the Spartacus’s and other Red fronts moving into organized positions ready for the utter communization of Germany. At this point, there was weak resistance by the police because the most liberal Weimar Republic administration leaned heavily to the left (Right Wing patriots and policemen were murdered; images on the first pages of the book accurately record this.). Many pages of photographs are included and chronologically record these horrific crimes to include pictures of the corpses of the victims of the Red brigades. Yes, that was the gigantic, ugly problem. Now what possibly could be a solution? Well, at this point, we start to see the intervention of Saint Michael the Archangel (Michael is the patron saint of soldiers and police officers) in the early formation of the Deutsches Freikorps. In hundreds of photos, the book then traces the combative sequences of the police and the German patriots as they bravely battle the insidious and foul foe thus saving Germania from a fate worse than death! Much of the rest of this fantastic book traces the history of the natural bonding of the police and the NSDAP. This section contains many images that are not offered in the numerous books we have encountered on the subject. This volume stands alone as the absolute hornbook on the saga of the German Police in its hour of siege and moments of glory! There are hundreds of photos in this fantastic book; so many that it would be a tedious task to put captions under all of them. Just let it be said as in the old adage: “A picture is worth a thousand words."

This version was given to new NSDAP party members. It has a dedication by Rudolf Hess to remind new party members they have a responsibility to Germany. The dedication page is stamped with the eagle and swastika insignia. It comes with the rare original dust jacket. The People’s Edition was smaller in size than the earlier editions. In fact, it now had the same size as a standard German bible. This was no coincidence; the Nazi’s goal was that Mein Kampf would eventually replace the bible in every German household.

Book on Adolf Hitler's Rise to Chancellor of the Reich (Item RAREBOOK 2-40; AH 31-27) |
DESCRIPTION: Ein Volk steht auf, 53 Tage nationaler Revolution (A Nation Rises - 53 Days of National Revolution) is an extremely rare NS book: a heavily illustrated photo documentary of the 53 days leading up to the day Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany by German President Paul von Hindenburg. This First Edition was published in 1933 by Rowohlt Verlag in Berlin (still in business today). The 120 photos in this book are not half-toned in the regular way (with a dot pattern), but are printed by a method called rotogravure, which produces something that looks somewhat more like a photograph. The back of the book has punched holes on the back cover indicating it was a library book.
