Book Olympiade Berlin 1936 Amtlicher Bericht, (Registered Official Report) (Item OLY 5-1)

DESCRIPTION: This 638-page book is unfortunately only volume 1 of a 2-volume set. This volume covers all the Berlin Olympics while volume 2 would be the winter games at Garmisch. There is no better a study of these, the world's greatest games. It is loaded with text and pictures (a few in color). Instead of the usual sporting events being 90 percent of Olympic books, this one leans toward the National Socialist ideology and its influence on the 1936 Olympics. There is no question that Hitler's agenda was to bring about a realization from the world's people of the magnificence not only of Germany's athletics, but he wanted to preset a picture of the glory and achievements of the German system. If you read any of the reviews of that day and age it was obvious that he succeeded. This was without a doubt the Olympics of sheer beauty! In the giant volume we see crisp, clear pictures of the founders, officials, ceremonies, events, heroes, winners, etc., and America's Jess Owens is lauded by the German people and the Party even if this flies in the face of lying propagandists in the post-Olympic period. Germany loved Jesse and Jesse loved Germany. The idiotic accusation was the Hitler snubbed him. Jess himself blew this falsehood apart by relating that the Führer himself nodded to him, but did not personally congratulate any of the winners because if he did it with one he would have to do it with all! This could not be realistically done. The book is a virtual treasure and unlike the blue cigarette Olympic books it is extremely rare. It measures 9 ½ x 12 inches by 1 ½ inches thick.

Book, Leni Rienfenstahl's Schönheit im Olympischen Kampf, Beauty in Olympic Competition
(Item OLY 5-2)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a virtual treasure of archival history. This extremely rare book from 1937 is by the master photographer of all times, the late Ms. Leni Riefenstahl. This is not a book chronicling the games, the winners, the timing. No, this is a book of special-effect pictures that does as its name implies. It brings forth the beauty of the human form of the athletes, the stadium, the excitement, the apprehension, the glory, the agony, through the lens of this woman, who is hated by some for her heroic portrayals of this era, while others like yours truly deeply admire her and adore her for leaving at least a record of what it was really like. Here is the depiction of not only the games, but of the spirit of competition in the true glamorous light that no one has ever captured before or since. This is a huge volume measuring 10 x 12 inches and is 1 ½ inches thick. It was published in 1937 (76 years ago) by the Deutscher Verlag in Berlin. There are 281 pages and the book is in near-mint condition. PRICE: $578.00; extremely rare!

1936 Olympic Youth Knife (Special Issue) (Item OLY 5-3; YOUTH 3-19)

DESCRIPTION: This is a tiny Fahrtenmesser or Hitler Youth knife. It is much smaller than the usual encountered H.J. weapon and was specially produced for a presentation gift to the young people from the N.S. Youth Organization, who did so much to help with this the grandest of Olympiads. Unlike its larger cousin this petite dagger has stag grips, while the normal issue one has black plastic grips. Even the enameled insignia at the middle of the grip is smaller. The blade is quite beautiful with the crowned bear of the city (Berlin) and the N.S. sports eagle with the familiar Olympic rings. The saying “Zum Ruhme des Sports zur Ehre des Vaterlandes” is reminiscent of the actual spirit of these 1936 games. It means: “The Glory of Sports is the Honor of the Fatherland.” This little treasure was produced by the firm of Emil Voos of Solingen. The knife is in excellent shape throughout; especially the blade and this in near mint. Our German-branch crews, who scour the Fatherland on a constant basis, recently discovered several of these great little knives in Potsdam outside of Berlin after a lengthy search. These were socked away with 49 Hitler Youth Olympic posters (That we did not get!), but it was the information about the posters that a major poster dealer, who turned us on to that, resulted in our being able to procure the little HJ knives. To her we owe a great debt of gratitude. The posters and knives were packed away in 1945 and now can be offered in very limited supply to the collecting public. Whenever examples have rarely been offered before they have brought from $1,500 to $2,500, because of their high desirability and scarcity. Because Germania International, LLC has managed to procure a small group of these beautiful knives we will offer you one at $1,650.00 and please know that this is a definitely a smart investment opportunity to own one of the scarcest edged weapons of the Third Reich. We are now down to two of these and we sent them out as the best condition ones to the first buyers to come. Some of them when stored over the many years show some minor rust, but sometimes it is in the design itself thus very difficult to remove. So we would suggest you call first to have us describe in detail the one you will receive, but regardless of the condition. This is a very important Hitler Youth and Olympic item indeed. This is very probably a one-time opportunity to aquire this piece; a great historical treasure of the Reich.

PRICE: Sorry. All sold out!

1936 Olympic Photo Album (Item OLY 5-5)

DESCRIPTION: This is a unique photo album put together by a participant in a neat and interesting style with very professional acumen. The pictures are partly commercial types although many of them are seen here, possibly for the first time; not repeated from publications of the time (we have seen them all!). There are about 93 pictures separately affixed to the album’s pages: some 4 ½ x 3 inches, some 6 ½ x 6 ½ inches. Some are 3 ¾ x 2 inches and 5 x 7 inches, as well. You’ll also find some measuring 8 ½ x 8 ½ inches. All events are featured in great photographic studies. Pictures of Hitler, Göring, party and military leaders are also featured. This is just a very nice historically important album from this the greatest of the Olympiads. It’s in nice condition and measures 13 x 9 inches and is about 1 inch thick.

Rare Olympic Books, Vols. 1 and 2, Olympia 1936 (Item OLY 5-6)

DESCRIPTION: While the two blue Olympic books, Und die Leibesübungen im Nationalsolzialistischen Staat, with the blue covers that we are so familiar with, repose in so many collections, this set was made for libraries and very advanced period collectors. They are absolutely beautiful with partial genuine leather bindings and leather corners on the covers. The rest of the covers are in fine, hard-linen wrapping. In near-mint condition they were published officially by the Buchvertrieb of the Olympiade 1936 in Berlin. While many books were printed up for the tourists and worldwide enthusiasts, these two volumes were for official use in libraries and learned institution, and as gifts to highly placed persons on the Olympic committee, and to VIP’s whom Germany sought to honor. The book progresses from the history of the games to the chronicles of this, the greatest of all the Olympic gatherings. The first volume has 376 pages, while volume 2 has 520 pages. Altogether, 896 pages of prodigiously important text and hundreds of pictures executed in absolute photographic fineness. These books, unlike the one printed for worldwide distribution, are especially presented to show the abject importance of sport to the N.S. ideology and agenda. The party influence is very evident in the message of these beautiful volumes. We could not recommend any archival studies that could possibly exceed this set of marvelous books.

PRICE: $750.00; for the set -- SALE! REDUCED TO $550.00
