Book Leaders of the Third Reich (Item PERS 2-1)

DESCRIPTION:This is a 30-page soft-cover pamphlet-style book that was published a few years back by the research unit of Ulric of England. We include it for research sake although we do not as a rule handle new items on Germania. The book is composed of material originally published in 1937 under the title Das Führerkorps des Dritten Reichs by the newspaper Die Nordische Rundshau. It is a very good summary of the descriptions of the leaders of that time with great, but small biographies of their background and importance to the movement. It measures 12 x 8 3/4 inches and is an invaluable aid to the researcher in N.S. history. It is out of print and very tough to find. We offer it for $22 and postage.

Original Picture Set of Hitler Visit (Item PERS 2-2)

DESCRIPTION: This is a fantastic group of 40 5 x 3 ½ photos. These are ORIGINAL, possibly never-published pictures of Hitler and various NSDAP dignitaries. Some of the pictures are very well posed, photographed, and developed while others would have been studio rejects because of shaping, posing, angles, etc. But, the all-important underlying importance of these pictures is their ORIGINALITY. The pictures seem to be in 3 stages. First, the preparation at the airport for the Führer and his entourage coming; second, the grand arrival and then the hand-shaking and visitation photos. SS, police, SA, political leaders, veterans, army personnel, business leaders, and notables such as Ernst Rhöm, Fanz von Papen, and General Field Marshal Werner von Blomberg are all seen in the photos. Adolf Hitler is seen in at least nine of the pictures, von Blomberg in four, von Papen in one, while SA Staff Chief Rhöm in two. Original one-of-a-kind photos of Hitler, especially snapshots go for as high as $100 to $200 each. We ask $1,200 for the entire grouping of extremely rare historically important pictures.

Autograph of General Ludendorf (Item PERS 2-3)

DESCRIPTION: This is a signed picture of the famous WWI hero who, with von Hindenburg, smashed the Russian forces at Tannenberg and other places that now are the historic saga of the German nation. Later, the old warrior felt the magnetic pull of Nazism and joined with Hitler prior to the November 9th Putsch in Munich. He marched with the NSDAP to its fateful meeting with the police and Bavarian army at the Feldherrenhalle. Later, he was deeply involved with nationalism bordering on the occult. The Ludendorf Society exists even today in Germany and elsewhere. The print is 9 1/4 x 5 3/4 inches. It is presently unframed, but would lend itself to a great-looking framed treasure. The signature is clear and fine. The color superlative!

Pewter Plate of Gauleiter Julius Streicher (Item PERS 2-5)

DESCRIPTION: Julius Streicher, 1885-1946, Gauleiter of Nuremberg-Franconia from 1925 until 1940. Born February 12, 1886, he was an elementary-school teacher. He served in WW I rising from enlisted man to lieutenant. After the war he founded the anti-Semitic Deutsche Sozial Partie and in 1922 joined the Nazi Party bringing all of his loyal followers with him. Adolf Hitler never forgot this and remained loyal to Julius. Streicher participated in the beer-hall Putsch and served a month in prison. A lifelong enemy of the Jews and Zionism, he founded the newspaper Der Sturmer in 1932 and remained its editor until 1945. Der Sturmer featured political cartoons, and photos of Jews and other enemies of National Socialism and the German lifestyle. The journal enjoyed tremendous popularity. Streicher fell out of the graces of the party in 1940. He spent the war years editing Der Sturmer. When tried at Nuremberg Julius Streicher knew that even though the "judges" could not find anything to charge him with he would be killed anyway simply because his works were offensive to certain groups. Far from being astonished at the verdict he more than anyone else there at Nuremberg seemed to prove that the verdicts had more to do with racial vindictiveness than justice. This man was choked to death on the end of a rope for over 20 excruciating minutes. His last words "Long live Germany!" The plate is 9 inches in diameter and is nicely marked with Fein-Zinn and company logo. It says Frankenführer, Julius Streicher, and the name of the manufacturer in Neuhaus. Although it is undented, it was quite blackened with time and storage. We have cleaned it up so that it is quite presentable with some blackening still evident and minor scratches from the cleaning. This is a fine historically important piece of early Third Reich history and should be preserved for all "the right reasons!"

Pewter Plaque of Horst Wessel (Item PERS 2-6)

DESCRIPTION: Horst Wessel, 1907-1930, SA leader, songwriter, born at Bielefeld on September 9, 1907. He was the son of a protestant clergyman. He studied law at the university, but abandoned his studies after falling in love with a Berlin girl (Berliner Luft), Horst joined the Nazi Party at 19 and became the leader of one of the troops of brown shirts (storm troopers). Later he wrote the lyrics for the celebrated Horst Wessel Lied, originally titled Raise the Banner (Die Fahne Hoch). This, after his murder by a gang of filthy Communist rats, became the anthem of the NSDAP. His untimely death and the recognition of his leadership record, plus the adoration of his troopers now transformed him into an eternal heroic symbol. He was in fact an idealist who had given his life for the Nationalist Socialist cause. Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels called him a socialist Christ when he gave the eulogy at the grave sight. “Die Fahne hoc!/Die Reihen dicht Geschlossen/SA Marschiert mit ruhig festem schritt…” Translated: “Hold the flag high/close up the battered ranks!/SA marches forward with calm, firm stride…” The plate (plaque) measures 9 inches in diameter and is in very fine condition throughout with very tiny, almost invisible scratches. The back has the Fein Zinn (fine pewter) mark with company logo and the name of the manufacturer in Neuhaus. The hanging device was broken off and has a rigged repair that at least works. This is a truly rare and historically important piece of early NSDAP history and a great addition to a good collection.

Extremely Rare Presentation Volume of Mussolini’s Visit to Munich (Item PERS 2-7; I-FAS 1-14; NSDAP 8-2)

DESCRIPTION: This is the magnificent leather-bound book that was presented to very highly placed dignitaries on the occasion of the visit of the Italian Duce to Hitler, Germany and Der Hauptstadt Bewegung, Munich (The Head City of the Movement). The program that appears at the start of the book would make any good Germanophile wish he had a time-machine trip to the past to see these grandiose festivities; especially at 3:00 in the first afternoon of the visit as the formations of the NSDAP march by the Führer and Il Dulce:
   First, the Motorized Police, then,
   the Hitler Youth
   the NSKK (Motor Corps)
the Old Fighters of November 9, 1923
   the HJ NS School personnel
   the Standards of the Movement
   the elite SA group Feldherrenhalle
   the NSKK, again
   thke NSFK Glider Corps
   the SS Group South
the Junkeers of the Ordensburg Vogelsang
   the political leaders
   the SS Death’s Head Division
   the SS Standard Germania
   the SS Standard Deutschland
   the SS Standard Adolf Hitler
the elite of the elite march by last as always to the magnificent sound of the Badenweiller Marsch. What a parade!. The book has about 50 doubled pages of parchment-style paper and about 22 pages of spectacular pictures of Bavarian scenery and then about 15 glossy pages depicting photos of the Munich area including pictures of NS buildings and Bewegung ceremonies dealing with November 9th commemorations and the eternal watch at the Königsplatz. Included importantly in the doubled parchment is important text dealing with this grand occasion and 21 great art prints in full color of Munich, decked out in gala decorations for this auspicious and important visit. The pomp, ceremony, and architectural décor put together for this historical event will never reach this zenith again in all probability. The color prints measures from 5 x 3 ½ inches to 5 x 4 ¼ inches with a few other similar sizes. They were done in 1937 by an abstract artist (Buchnew). The use of gilt or gold paint is predominant and gives the scenes a royal-looking countenance. The title page letters stand out in high relief in this golden hue and are so raised they could be read in Braille. There is a signature of an English lady, who acquired the book in Schönberg in Tannis, while she was there in 1946-1951. Other than that the volume is in super-excellent shape with the elegant red, leather binding beautiful to behold with the great Hitler-style eagle on its cover. The book measures 7 ½ x 8 3/4 inches and nearly 1 inch thick. There is slight scuffing at corners; repeat , slight. This is a historic treasure seldom seen.

Reinhard Heydrich Presentation Fencing Sculpture (Item SS 21-6; PERS 2-8)

DESCRIPTION: Here is an extremely rare figure of a fencer, which was presented to Gruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich in 1936 by a close friend and fellow fencing enthusiast SS-Untersturmführer Kretschmann, who was a ranking officer in the SD Hauptampt and very often was a top-place winner in the fencing competitions. Quoting from the book Reinhard Heydrich, The Biography by Ulrich Publishing: “Whatever drove Heydrich in his official capacity as the head of the vast network of police departments it permeated through his love of sport. He possessed a determination beyond comparison within the ranks of the Black Order to succeed in competition. His love of horse riding, athletics, skiing, swimming, sailing, and shooting was only surpassed by his fervent enthusiasm for flying and over all other, fencing!” Fencing appears to have been his most successful pastime in the sporting arena and was by his own admission his passion even in later years. He would always spend time to exercise his skills before starting his strenuous days of demanding duties in the SD office. At the order of Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, the first SS fencing masters tournament was held in the Berlin House of German Sport from November 12 to November 14, 1936. The SD was heavily represented. Heydrich won fifth place in the Rapier Class A and third in the Saber Class A. During the evening of the November 14, in the officers’ mess at the Berlin Lichterfelde Barracks of the SS-Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler, SS-Obergruppenführer Heissmeyer presented the prizes. Heydrich gave a speech emphasizing the importance of fencing in the SS culture. In August 1941, at the Second Wartime German Fencing Championships in Bad Kreutznach, Heydrich was placed fifth out of the top 12 fencers in the entire country and very close to the top for all of Europe. It is noteworthy that Heydrich however pleased with himself, he might be about his many victories he didn’t make much fuss about them. Fellow SS fencers idolized their leading swordsman, which was not surprising since their successful Gruppenführer always offered them encouragement. At the earliest opportunity he would do his utmost to help young up-and-coming fencers and indeed always tried to entice those showing exceptional talent to join the ranks of the SS. Heydrich would stop at nothing to attain the best team for the SS and promoted the idea that good swordsmen would have a good niche in the SS organization. With all of this in mind it seems apropos that SS officers of his command who were fellow fencers would honor the Gruppenführer with gifts and I’m sure he presented such presents in kind. The fencing fraternities in all nations are a very special comradeship and the “SS family” would be no exception (especially the SS!). The fencing figure that we offer here was bought in the Czech Republic from a group of items that had been from Reinhard Heydrich’s office within the walls of the Hradcany Castle, where his office as Reich Protector of Bohemia Moravia was located; more specifically, the Charles Palace within the castle itself. The magnificent sculpture with its wonderful fine detail was no doubt bought by the fencing comrades to give to the chief. The sculpture was at the time a very excellent rendering in bronze, but also an antique of particular note. It was originally produced by Rudolf Küchler of Vienna, Austria, who was know for fabulous human figures, dancers, soldiers, entertainers, and obviously, fencers. Küchler worked in the mid 1800’s and gained much fame for his sculptures in bronze. It was certainly thoughtful for the fraternity of swordsmen to search out such a fine antique knowing that the culture-appreciating Heydrich would be positively enamored of such a priceless gift. Rudulf Küchler was an accomplished artist and he worked for Austrian and German royalty and the best of galleries in the mid-19th century. Some of his works are shown in the set of Abage encyclopedias known as Bronzes Sculptors and Founders, Volume 4, 1800-1930. The marble base measures 1 ½ inches thick and is 15 x 10 ½ inches square. The height with base is 18 inches to top of head. From tip of sword to the hand extended behind is 20 inches. The bronze plinth itself is 11 x 5 inches. The silver presentation plaque is 9 1/2 x 2 inches. The figure alone is 12 inches high. The presentation legend on the silver plaque reads: “Dem Parteigenossen und Gruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich in treuer Kameradschpft von Deinem fechterfreund SS Untersturmführer kretschmann und den Fechtkameraden 29 Juli 1936. Heil Hitler!,” which translates to: “For party member and Major General Reinhard Heydrich in true comradeship from your fencing friend 2nd Lieutenant SS Kretschmann and the fencing comrades. Heil Hitler.” Untersturmführer Kretschmann was one of Heydrich’s best friends and according to records was the SS master fencing champion in 1936. He was an officer on Heydrich’s Sicherheitsdienst (security service) office staff. This is not only a fantastic historically important relic of SS history, but it belonged to Germany’s greatest policeman, who was at one point a high-ranking official of INTERPOL, and it is a genuine important antique from one of the greatest sculptors of the once-united fatherland. This has to rank up there with the greatest and best offerings ever offered by Germania International, LLC.

Original 5 x 7 Photos of Leaders and Ceremonies (Item PERS 2-9)

DESCRIPTION: These are great! As far as we know they have never been published anywhere. They were purchased by a veteran who after landing stateside researched some of the pictures and in most cases he is correct in the identification of the major players. In one case, though, he identified an SA high leader as Horst Wessel, but evidently learned better and corrected himself. He wrote on the backs of the pictures with his ID information. They are truly great pictures printed on first-quality photo paper. They are indeed fine and original and included in the group are pictures of Hitler, Rommel, von Shirach, Goebbels, Hess Bormann, Göring, Streicher, Frick, Ritter von Ep, etc., and some super pictures of SA and SS personal. There are 10 pictures in all. The historical importance is evident.

Silver Place Setting of Rudolf Hess (Item PERS 2-10)

DESCRIPTION: Here is one of the greatest personality finds that we have yet uncovered. We are offering for sale each of two sets that are comprised of 10 pieces each of the personal silverware of Rudolf Hess. We have with the sets a picture of Sergeant Richard Cowling, the GI looter who stole the silverware from the Hess estate at Reicholdsgrün in lower Bavaria. There is also a sworn statement from Phyllis Orsi dating from July 2, 2005, where she certifies before a Michigan notary public as to the authenticity of the items. She lists the pieces in the 120-piece set of silverware and states that her uncle, Sgt. Cowling liberated these pieces. Why can’t the word ‘stole’ or ‘steal’ be used when talking about theft. In any case, she lists the sets as 10-piece place settings. Each consists of the following pieces:
1 demitasse spoon
1 ice cream spoon
1 teaspoon
1 large soup spoon
1 fish knife
1 luncheon knife
1 dinner knife
1 dinner fork
1 luncheon fork
1 dessert fork
It’s also noted that only four pieces in each setting bear the Rudolf Hess “R.H.” monogram. This, from Germania’s experience, is usual in noble families. It can be noted, however, that the unmarked pieces are of the exact art nouveau pattern. Some of the pieces bear the crown, moon, and ‘800’ silver designation, and some do not. This is also usual as the requirements of the German Silver Makers’ Guild mandated that at least part of all such sets carry these marks. The blades of the knives are marked with the logo of J.A. Henckels.Solingen Zwillingswerk and have, in the case of the large knives, the joined twins of that company that all dagger collectors are quite familiar with. The pieces are quite beautiful in their own right with gorgeous art nouveau pattern. All the other sets were sold to two collectors and we have the last two sets. We also have the wooden crate they were shipped home in after being “liberated.” The true story of Rudolf Hess is brought to you by his son, Wolf Rüdiger Hess. If you are interested in reading it select this link. This is a fascinating, yet sad, story about a man with high ideals, a man of peace, a man who stuck by his principles, and was imprisoned for 40 years when his only crime was to attempt to do his best to end a horrible fratricidal war between brother nations. He had to be murdered when he was soon to be released because of what he could relate to the world. His son quotes his father’s statement uttered at the Nuremberg Star Chamber trial: “I regret nothing!” A man among men! His honor was loyalty. Let this wonderful place setting be one more memorial to the spirit of Treue Rudolf.

Book Herman Göring (Item PERS 2-11; GOR 8-4)

DESCRIPTION: This is a soft-cover, small book that is a capsule review of the likes of the man who historians have dubbed the latter-day Falstaff; the flamboyant, colorful, brave, and loyal Hermann Göring; general, SA leader, chief forestry official, WWI ace, Reichsmarschal, etc. This was the human dynamo, probably the most energetic leader of the 20th century. Loved by his German people and called Unser Hermann (our Hermann) here was a man who made mincemeat out of his cowardly accusers at the trails at Nuremberg, Jackson was no match for this forceful and courageous word warrior; well, that’s another story!!! This book contains 76 pages and only about 8 pictures and is a valuable relic as an archival item of importance.

Book Rudolf Hess (Item PERS 2-12)

DESCRIPTION: From the Hoover Library on War, Revolution, and Peace comes this soft-cover volume that was taken during WWII, or thereafter. The title is Rudolf Hess der Stellvertreter des Führers, Rudolf Hess, Secretary to the Führer. Zeitgeschichte, A Chronicle. This volume contains text and pictures of the career of this man who remained true to his honor and convictions right up to the time of his horrible murder by British Special Forces. This was the messenger of peace, who tried to stop the bloody fratricidal war between two related nations. We will go no further with that at this point; it is our considered historical opinion. The book consists of 32 pages with only about 10 pictures, but the librarians at the Hoover Institute thought it important enough to archive it. Why did they let it go? Perhaps another was received or ??? Anyway, it is an important addition to any library as it is a rare book about a rare personality, indeed, Der Treue Rudolf!
