Labor Corps Album (Item RAD 2-2)

DESCRIPTION: This is about the nicest RAD album that has ever turned up. Oh how we need such an institution here today! One cannot but help to look at the health, the pride, the cleanliness, the manliness of these labor organization fellows and their comradeship and zeal without knowing that this was at least one of the positive aspects of the National Socialist program. Arbeit Adelt! "Work Glorifies" was the motto of the Reich's Arbeit Dienst and no truer saying ever was uttered. Well, don't get this old police officer started! Let's get to the album itself. On the cover it says Aus Meiner Dienstzeit, "Of My Service Time." Measuring 11 x 7 ½ inches it is covered in a fine linen-like fabric and is in fine, almost mint condition, except that some dutiful West German dealer saw fit to obliterate the swastika on the cover space design-"self-flagellation." One of the great aspects of this album is that the former owner took the time to type the descriptions of almost every one of the 51 well-taken photos. The pictures are in various sizes-3 ½ x 2 ½ (almost) to 3 ½ x 5. Almost all look very professional although it is definitely amateur photography. Included are camp scenes, muster before the flagpole, rest and relaxation, and various work duties. Also depicted are shots of playing with their mascots, guard duty, military exercises, scenes with parents and Wehrmacht brother on leave, comic picture (goofing around), town posed pics, parades, tanks, military vehicles, and last, but certainly, not least, this particular RAD group Abteilung 4/154 was also a reenacting troupe of them in 18th-century costumes when they act out a campaign pause in the war against Napoleon This is a really great little album, indeed.

PRICE: $ 285.00

RAD (Labor Corps) Hewer (Item RAD 2-4)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a very nice example of a RAD hewer by the firm of Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. This may have been one of the rare blued models because there is no shine to the fittings. They are gray. The dagger is in fairly nice shape except for the fact that one of the grip retaining screws has a replacement nut that seems to be welded onto the screw??? This is at the backside bottom. The blade markings are Carl Eickhorn Solingen with the small squirrel in the oval. Above this the triangle with RD-J. I have explained before that these pieces were used as dress items, but also served as handy tools. For instance, the back of the hilt at the top invariably has marks in the plating like dozens of little dings. Why? Well, notices of work details and R&R exercises were posted daily. What could be more handy than that dagger to tack it up with? The blades like this one are 90 percent of the time in sharpened or worn condition. The blade is pretty good as these blades go-only a little sharpening very close to the edge. All in all its condition is rated good +. The scabbard is average with no rings. One of the bottom retaining screws is missing. The hanger is the rare second type and is in good shape. Nice dagger!
