Imperial Russian Medal, Order of St. Stanislas (Item RUSO 3-2)

DESCRIPTION: This order was originally Polish and was founded by King Stanislas August Poniatowsky of Poland on May 7, 1765, to honor his patron saint. Following the Polish insurrection of 1831 Emperor Nicholas I incorporated the St. Stanislas with other Russian orders and from this date until 1917 the emperor was the grand master. Until 1846 all classes of the order carried with it the right of hereditary nobility, but the statutes of 1845 limited this right of all classes of St. Vladimir. This is the third-class award in 37 mm worn on the breast. This is the one awarded to Christians. The Muslim one is different. It bears the Russian eagle instead of "SS" for St. Stanislas. This is in the gold-plated-brass edition, not pure gold as some of them were. The condition is fine, with intact enameling (no ribbon) with swords for military personnel. This is an important Russian piece and a very beautiful order.

Russian Red Cross Medal (Item RUSO 3-3)

DESCRIPTION: This is the medal for meritorious service in the Russian Tsarist Red Cross, WWI period. A handsome enameled medal with the crown of the Tsar under the suspension ring. This medal may have been a badge, but the recipient preferred to wear it as a medal. (By the look of the back it seems to have been converted). Interesting!

Kindjal or Dagger of the Caucuses (Item RUSO 3-4)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a very fine dagger of the Steppes. The traditional Kindjal (Russian for dagger). This one although Armenian in construction uses Russian 81 marked silver. The fittings are all silver and the Niello work is fantastic with Byzantine-style floral work throughout. There is a signature in Middle Eastern script on the back of the top throat fitting. The blade has a logo of the maker as well. The blade is double blood grooved and measures 22 ¼ inches long in scabbard. The blade measures 14 ¼ inches long and 1 ½ inches wide at the base of the blade. This is an original 1880's Kindjal not the junk being sold in Russia, today. The style is typical of the Volga Cossacks and probably was the dagger of a hetman or brotherhood chieftain. This is indicated by the extreme fineness of the weapon. Note: the ball end that is so elaborate is intact and this is important enough to note. Many times you will see Kindjals with this ball or egg-shaped appurtenance broken clear off! Why? Because this piece represented the orb of the Tsar, himself, and when the communist uprising destroyed the traditions of the Tsarist motherland, the Cossacks who betrayed their ruler broke off the ball from their Kindjals as a sign of solidarity with the subhuman reds and this symbolized the breaking off with the Holy Father Nicholas, the Tsar. So here by the grace of God we have a weapon of one of the loyal true Cossacks. Let's hope that some of the old pitting on the blade was effectuated by sticking it into one of the early rat commissars of the people.

Wonderful Letter Knife from Imperial Russia (Item RUSO 3-5)

DESCRIPTION: This is possible the finest piece of Tsarist jewelry we have ever seen. We call it jewelry because it is just not a mere paper knife. It is a masterpiece of the jewelers art. The blade is crafted from Siberian nephrite jade with the wonderful green, almost translucent, look. This was the sort of treasured object that was given as a gift to aristocrats and royal guests at the Royal Tsarist palaces in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The double-headed eagle in pure silver at the top and also in a different configuration at the cross guard position are just stupendous in quality. There are deeply stamped Russian hallmarks and the '84' silver marks plainly stamped. The highly defined blue enamel panels that seem almost translucent are studded in between the overlaid silver décor with precious stones (rubies?).

 Malachite Box (Item RUSO 3-6)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a charming little box constructed from real malachite, the holy stone of the Russian steppes. The petite box is wonderfully fitted together with slabs of this beautiful, veined green marble-like stone. At the bottom are silver lion’s feet and on the top is the gorgeous Romanian Dynasty eagle in precise and elegant majesty. The detail is fantastic with all the nations’ crests that made up the Russian Empire of the tsars. The inside has been re-covered with a nice felt lining top and bottom. This is a very nice and inexpensive Imperial Russian treasure that is a reminder of the glory that was tsarist Russia before the dark days of the reds fell upon it. This is a relic of the better era.

Imperial Russian Goblet (Item RUSO 3-7)

DESCRIPTION: This is an interesting goblet from the days of the Tsar. In pure silver the depictions on the vessel are of characters from Russian mythological history; knights with swords, and a barbaric war club. The markings are ‘84’ for silver and the company mark is there, as well. The piece is obviously quite rare and very presentable on the rare-object shelf. The Dr. Zhivago syndrome is felt when examining it.

Engraved Presentation Cossack Cavalry Sword (Shaska) (Item RUSO 3-8)

DESCRIPTION: Here is certainly one of the finest and certainly one of the most important Russian shaska ever offered in cyberspace. Shaska is a Russian word for sword and this is indeed a sword — a big sword—and also a profoundly remarkable acquisition for Germania International, LLC. This is positively an outstanding discovery, indeed. This is by the outside appearance a standard shaska; rather plain and typical of the type used in battle by these fantastic horsemen, who have often been called the “Comanche’s of the steppes.” Cossacks—we know them as fierce tribesmen of the Russian steppes—were known for their valor, tenacity, and their habit of always performing acts beyond the call of duty, and of always reaching the impossible. They were the superb cavalry of the Russian emperor, the conquerors of Napoleon, and the unique troops who proved to be so kind and chivalrous during their occupation of Paris in 1844. Military men throughout the world admire the Cossacks for their valor, esprit de corps, and military bearing. They embodied the spirit of patriotism to Mother Russia and they served faithfully the tsars of the Romanov Dynasty. Often called “brutal gendarmes” by various revolutionists and communist gutter scum, they nonetheless remained true for the most part to the true and real Russia. They have also been called the horsemen who carried the borders of Russia on the pommels of their saddles. They were, because of this wild love of freedom, the class enemies of the Bolsheviks. They refused to accept the doctrines of communism and the so-called “Benefits of the Soviet State” and because of their “backwardness and stubbornness” the red rats decided that they had to be liquidated, one and all. Because of their external struggle for freedom their heroic stand against the ‘evil empire’ (Ronald Reagan quote). When the German invasion of that evil empire began the Cossacks quickly joined with the Wehrmacht in the hopes that this united front against the reds might depose the murderous Bolshevik rulers and bring back peace and tranquility to the troubled land. They fought bravely and effectively against the various partisan rodents all over the east and under the high Vlasoff command and in cooperation with the German Army and Waffen-SS this great goal was nearly accomplished. The Germans greatly admired those stalwart and dedicated warriors. At the tragic end, however, the Cossack brotherhood was betrayed by the so-called anticommunist crusaders of the allied forces. Almost to a man they surrendered to the Americans and British. At Yalta in 1945 “Uncle Joe” Stalin (the devil incarnate) demanded the return of all Soviet citizens and the so-called Christian gentlemen Churchill and Roosevelt quickly agreed in this. They became knowing and willing accomplices of the policies of Stalin and the murderous red army, yet they agreed to hand over all the faithful Russians who had tried to wrest back their sacred motherland from the filthy communists. Men, women, and children were beaten by allied victors “Tommy Atkins” and GI Joe. They were beaten with clubs and forced by the thousands into boxcars headed for the Soviet Zone and to Tito’s murderous cutthroats at Slovenia in the south. Mothers threw their babies from the box cars into the rivers or chewed open veins of their little wrists to save them from the tender mercies of the Russian partisans and Tito’s partisan scum. The Cossacks were especially wanted by “Uncle Joe” with spittle of excitement running down his grotesque jowls and Franklin and Winston were all too pleased to deliver these freedom-loving, noble people to him and his sadistic horde of demons.

The Sword
Again, it’s quite plain in the traditional combat style, but when drawn from the scabbard, suddenly the word plain is no long viable. The blade is magnificent! It’s relief etched with high-formed letters and décor that you could practically read in Braille. There are raised depictions of weapons as used by Cossack’s armor, pistols, and shaska, as well as a standard and bugle. The shaska was presented as a prize for superb, excellent horsemanship in 1884 to Vasily Uglishininy of the Second Cossack Division. The characters ‘2nd’ have been attached to several elite Cossack units throughout its history. In World War One it was the famous Second Cossack Brigade that was renowned for its participation in various actions in November of 1918 near the Araks, Karaurgan, and the earlier Dnestr in Galacia in 1915. In World War Two the Cossack Cavalry Division transferred to the Waffen-SS where it was split to form the First and Second Cossack Cavalry divisions that fought so bravely against superior odds of red barbarian savages from Stalin and Tito. The other side of this magnificent blade has several mounted Cossacks with lances galloping past Russian landscape. There are deeply stamped hallmarks at the beginning of the blade and a logo that was probably used by the bladesman artist. There is also a stamp at the cross guard (rubbed off pretty much by age and natural wear) with the date ‘1884.’ Beautiful flora design is evidenced before and after the equestrian scene. We suspect that this wonderful museum relic extraordinaire is possible the finest and most meaningful Cossack weapon that anyone has yet turned up. We are intensely proud and markedly ecstatic to be able to offer this grand and historically important sword to the collector and to museums, as well.

Young Cossack of the Don (outfit) (Item RUSO 3-9)

DESCRIPTION: Here is an excellent uniform coat, inner vest, belt, and horsewhip. Some called the Cossacks the predatory of the Russian steppes. Some called them the Comanches of the vast steppes. In any case, we admire their sense of freedom and traditional sense of brotherhood. They fought for the tsars, they fought for the German Führer in WW II, but always they maintained that fierce sense of freedom and that is why in the WW II era they struggled along with many other ethnic groups against what they rightfully perceived as the atheistic “beast of Bolshevism.” This boy’s outfit is from that period when these riders fought for their very lives and existence as free peoples. Thanks to the western powers that should have supported them, thousands of were turned over the Russian communists in 1945. This heinous act was carried out by British and American army units to the everlasting shame of these ‘victors.’ The outfit herein consists of the mantle or kyreia in black trimmed in gold bullion. The cartridge holders traditionally on the jacket by this time were strictly decorative. The Caucasian silver-trimmed belt has small, decorative doodads that were worn much like the western American cowboys sported on their gun belts. This belt would also be the one used to fasten the Kindjal (dagger or Shaska [sword]) that was traditionally worn. As always the most necessary part of the Cossacks’ gear is the Nagaika, the horsewhip, fashioned from leather bull hide. It is equipped with a staff of wood that is beautifully decorated with what looks to be tiny bone inlays. It certainly was once the pride of a proud member of the brotherhood of the steppes. The cartridge substitutions on the breast are made from plastic. They are replacements for genuine silver-topped ones that were probably looted many years ago. They do at least fill the bill. The shirt is of fine oriental silk and is of the dance-group type. Anyone who has seen a performance of Cossacks dancing can never forget it. It is the most acrobatic spectacle set to lively music and the retelling of battles, glory, love, and betrayal played to thundering rhythms with balalaikas and forceful song. In the famous Povzunets, dancers are eliminated if they even for a moment leave the squatting position. We would like to say much more, but let it be said that in my estimation the Cossacks are the most admirable ethnic group on earth and we are rather proud to offer this little vestige of this fabled folk of the Caucasus.

Salt and Pepper Holder (pig) (Item RUSO 3-10)

DESCRIPTION: While it’s not Fabergé, this little pig dinner-table piece is certainly in that style and excellence. The piggy is in silver and is mounted on a base of carved nephrite. The piece from snout to curved tail is 3 inches and is 2 inches high not including the protrusion that the tiny spoons (missing) would mount on. In the well at the bottom are of course the mandatory ‘84’ Russian designation for silver with the Grecian goddesses head in a stamped rectangular shape. Above this in a square stamping is ‘FP,’ possibly the artist, but unknown to us at this time. We do know it is a Moscow-made piece by the Greek goddess’ head and, in any case, very nicely made.

New But Super Nice Hand Painted Romanov Eggs (Item RUSO 3-11)

DESCRIPTION: These were produced on special request by one of the best of the painters in Russia. They represent in true-to-life form Tsar Nicholas and Tsarina Alexandra of the Romanov Dynasty. They are done on wooden eggs that are quite large—comparable to the ostrich egg. They measure about 4 1/2 inches high by about 3 inches wide. The colors are astounding! On the backs of the pieces are depictions of the Romanov Dynasty Russian eagles on whose center shields bear the likeness of St. George, Imperial Russia’s Patron Saint. He is traditionally shown on his white horse in the act of slaying a dragon. Beautiful gold outer lining cover every detail. The detail is fantastic where even the medals and orders of the Tsar’s uniform stand out in beautiful detail and authenticity. They are just wonderful mementos to these murdered sovereigns. Recently, Nicholas was beatified by the Russian Orthodox Church to the status of a saint. The rats who murdered him and his beautiful family don’t deserve to have their remains placed in a decent, respectable garbage can. Curse them and their progeny forever!

WWII-era Don Cossack Badge (Item RUSO 3-13)

DESCRIPTION: The reindeer is the crest of the Cossack—“As fast as the reindeer runs, the spear of the Cossacks is faster?” This pin was given to all members of the Don Cossack Army by Ottoman Bogaevsky in 1929, on the occasion of its 1,500th concert jubilee on November 8, 1929. Hetmann Jarnoff and Adrian were married in a double wedding that morning and the 1,500th concert was given that evening in Berlin. The Don Cossack chorus was founded in 1921 by Jarnoff. The first concert was in Vienna in 1923.

Very Rare Siberian Cossack Dagger (Kindjal) (Item RUSO 3-14)

DESCRIPTION: This is truly a museum piece. It is quite different than the usual or traditional dagger of the Cossack hosts. The blade engraving indicates that this weapon was produced in the town or village of Upha in Siberia. This was in the Upha River region and the people there were know as Koraks, who for the most part were considered middle Asian Mongols. The brass work actually has the Asian or Eastern look, but the blade is in European style of the early 18th or even the 17th century. We believe the piece was a presentation gift to an important member of the Siberian Cossack brotherhood. The blade has depictions of a Cossack using a bow and arrow and another on horseback. The Cossacks were an unusual phenomenon in world history. They consisted of several bands of free warriors of different origins who roamed the vast expanse of the steppes north of the Black and Caspian seas. For centuries they survived by constant warfare against the Tartars and Turks and, later on, whoever paid them. For 2 centuries, for instance, they made war at the will of the Russian Tsars. The Amur-Ussuri Cossacks in Siberia were without a doubt the fiercest of the brotherhood hosts. The Siberian Cossacks for the most part took sides with the White Russian forces in the anti-Bolshevik struggle in the aftermath of revolution. Because of their love of independence and freedom they sided with the Germans against the red marauders in WWII, as well. They suffered greatly when turned over to the communist butchers at the end of the war. They were betrayed and turned over by American and British forces with the approval of Churchill and Truman for the sake of “Uncle Joe,” who waited in evil glee with saliva running down his hideous jowls in anticipation of the horrendous torture that would be inflicted on these brave, but hapless people. The blade of the Kindjal, or dagger, looks to be very early, as we have stated. The piece is surely a significant museum relic. It measures about 17 inches in its scabbard. The grip is either a very hard wood, or bone. The decoration is typical sunflower design used throughout the steppes. The cup guard is decorated similarly as is the top cap. Here is what could be said to be a very important relic of Mother Russia and without a doubt inordinately unusual, but at the same time appropriate to the indigenous people of the Siberian land.
