Freikorps Cigarette Tin Canister (Item SA 7-2)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a great-looking cigarette tin canister with patriotic motif. It shows the amalgamation of the Freebooter of the Freikorps with the Storm Troopers of the Sturmabteilung (SA). The tobacco companies were, for the most part, rather patriotic and anticommunist and they financially supported the early Nazi Party and the Freikorps soldiers who were out there fighting the red rats in the Reich’s streets. So many of these tobacco companies also put out special-issue boxes and cigar labels reflecting approval of the SA, NSDAP, and the heroes of the Free Corps. This box has a Freikorps soldier and the swastika as its central design. It measures across the top 3 x 4 1/2 inches and is about 1 1/2 inches deep. It says: “Grosse Sorte” (large sort). On the back is the company name for the factory—the brothers Bürglen in Ulm on the Danube, established 1797. This is actually a very important historical item from the 1920’s, while the NSDAP was still struggling for power against all odds.

Equestrian Poster (Item SA 7-4; OLY 6-4)

DESCRIPTION: Here is an equestrian picture posting for the 1936 Olympic Games. These were made to be posted outside the gates at the Olympic horse stables and on the blank areas. The organizers of various events would post for the day the trials, demonstrations, and schedules for each. These are one-of-a-kind in that we have only one of each. They are mounted on board and the original owner/collector did this to preserve the items. For original 1936 items, the condition is great with some staining here and there, but the picture portion is great! The line is drawn through to prevent to some extent copies being made by unauthorized individuals who often try to steal Germania’s rare subjects for publication in various forms without our permission. These are originals and as such are very historically important, indeed. This one is for the SA, or Brown Shirt Storm Troops, and is a poster that was used to alert the public of an event that was to be put on by SA participants. The company name is also printed there (Book producer, St. George). The poster itself is in size 17 x 23 inches and is in very fine shape with a bit of staining in the area where the events would be scheduled.
