 Hessian Album (Item KBOOKS 2-2)

DESCRIPTION: Here is an excellent album of photos with a beautifully executed cover of metallic crests and fine front-quarter horsehide leather binding. It is loaded with original photographs of the dashing soldiers of the Second Dragoons of the Grossherzog Hessian Regt. No. 24. The book was put together as a gift to its commanding officer as he retired in 1876 and there is a letter of presentment inside the front cover with a picture of him on the right side. The metalwork is superb throughout. We only show a handful of the pictures of the many that are within. They are all individual images on the heavy card material of the day (they are inserted, not glued). This is just as nice an album as we have ever seen. It’s in very fine condition and wonderful as far a historical information and archival importance is concerned. The pictures are, for the greater part, clear and photographically excellent.

Book Deutsche Gedenkhalle, German Commemorative (Item KBOOKS 2-4)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a giant book of Germanic history. It comprises 472 pages measuring 13 x 9 ½ inches and is 2 ¼ inches thick. This is a marvelous volume in nice condition except for small binding laceration at the bottom of the book (really nothing!) It’s dated 1923 by the National Verlag (national publishing group). The book is done with beautiful colored oak-leaf trim on each manuscript-style page. The front color illustrations are gorgeous in illuminated gold and silver. The book not only goes into the various German wars and conflicts, but also the reigns of Wilhelm I, Frederick III, and Wilhelm II. It starts with the victory of Hermann the Cherusker over the legions of Rome in 9 AD. The wonderful prints are 7 ½ x 10 ½ inches throughout the edition. There are 40 absolutely fantastic images of this size. These are all famous works of Teutonic art that can only be seen in German museums--and this book. Frederick the Great, Bismarck, Moltke, Charlemagne, Blucher, the Hohenzollern Kaisers are all there. Hindenburg and Ludendorf and their great campaigns are exhaustingly covered. This is a prodigiously important archival treasure to the Germanophile as well as the historian of European greatness (wonderful).

Book Neunzig Jahre. Glaube, Kampf und Sieg Unseres Deutschen Kaisers; Ninety Years. Belief, Struggle, and Victory for our German Kaiser, 1797-1887> (Item KBOOKS 2-5)

DESCRIPTION: This is a beautiful special commemorative edition published in Stuttgart and Leipzig by Oskar Meding. It has many great black-and-white illustrations and 165 pages. It measures 8 x 11 1/2 inches with a special gold-leaf-covered binding. The book celebrates the 90 years of the life of the most beloved and respected monarchs of Germany. Called the “Soldier King” for his brilliant war service as officer and emperor; this was Kaiser Wilhelm I. There is a center spread of the unveiling of the Niederwald-Denkmal on the 28th of September 1883. This to me is an exciting moment as it commemorates not only the Prussian victory over France, but the amalgamation of the German states into the “German Empire” the greatest of the achievements of King Wilhelm and his chancellor, Bismarck. It is one beautiful book with historically important pictures throughout. This is great edition for the collector of imperial glory!

Book 1813-1815, Illustrierte Geschichte der Befreiungskriege (Item KBOOKS 2-6; FRAN 3-5)

DESCRIPTION: 1813-1815, The Illustrated History of the War for Freedom is a fantastic huge volume measuring 9 1/2 x 15 inches and is almost 2 inches thick. It was published in 1915 in celebration of the jubilee of the 100th anniversary of the German military resistance against Napoleon. By Professor Harttung, is has 414 pages and 343 illustration with 40 full-page spreads depicting scenes from this epic struggle. This, like no other, is the story of the war that changed the world forever. It actually was a world war since Britain, Scotland, Russia, and other European nations joined to defeat the forces of France. The pictures are all from famous historically correct paintings executed during the time of the conflict all the way up to just after the turn of the 20th century. Some of the full two-page illustrations are breathtaking to the fervent historian. Page after page depicting every battle from the beginning of Napoleon’s conquest of central Europe to his final defeat at Waterloo is excitedly covered. The notables on both sides are depicted in great detail. The greats such as Field Marshal Blucher appear lifelike within the pages. The battle scenes depicting the British and German forces acting in unison the French foe makes one think of Hitler’s ultimate agenda and goal. He wanted a repeat of this Aryan cooperation against another common enemy of the west—Soviet Russia—but Britain had other plans. England’s suicide as a great nation was the direct result of its anti-European stance. Stop me! I’m wishing and daydreaming again. We wish we could show you all of the hundreds of great pictures because almost every one of them is a treasure in itself. Inspiring! and thrilling as much as a book can be. The edition is ultrarare, even in Germany and is deserving of placement in a museum or great collection.

Book Des Deutsche Vaterland (Item KBOOKS 2-8)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a very special book for the dyed-in-the-wool Germanophile. This is a massive volume of 677 pages. It is 10 x 12 1/2 inches large and a heft 2 inches thick. If any book ever completely chronicled the places, culture, beauty, and history of the sacred soil of Germany, this is certainly the main contender. It was produced in Stuttgart in 1913, one year before the disastrous world war. The nations were peace and Europe was the epitome of high culture; especially Germany. Opening the pages of this book will thrill the heart of the lover of Teutonia. Others who are but “Belangloser” will be more enthralled by lesser volumes such as exist. This is the height of the Germanic dream in illustrations, photos, and text. It actually is a volume 1 and someday we may feature volume 2. The book is replete with wonderful pictures of German history from the Battle of the Teutoberg Forest to the ascension of Kaiser Wilhelm II to the Prussian throne and as his installment as Kaiser of the whole German lands and people. It would take many of our pages to show all the great images that are featured. Suffice it to say here is Germany: the Germany of Hermann, Luther, Duerr, Bismarck, the Prussian Kaisers, the folk traditions, the masterful architecture, the past glories, and cultural identification. “Heil Teutonia! Heil Deutschland!.”
