Refurbished Original Helmets
Page 1
The helmets under this heading are all 100-percent original helmet shells carefully chosen and then very professionally refurbished by a gentleman whom I would refer to as a Stalhelm-artist extraordinaire! This man has studied the German helmet for many years and what was first a private undertaking and hobby has become not only an art, but a business, as well. Knowing that, original Third Reich and Wehrmacht helmets have reached financial proportions that the average WWII buff cannot often afford. This gentleman decided to pursue another avenue. He knew we basically love the Stalhelm and that basic love is first and foremost formed around its distinctive style Then where the $$$ come in is the finish, right? Well, our helmet-master has gone to great lengths to solve the financial dilemma for us. I mentioned already he buys all the original German helmet shells that he can get a hold of and then fastidiously repaints them in the exact colors that the various military units would have worn. He is super careful about this. They must be, and will be, exact! He then replaces the liner and chinstrap with new leather parts that are absolutely faithful reproductions of the original. He then ages the fittings. The decals that are used on most of the helmets are also carefully selected and are perfect. The end product looks just as good as the originals that would cost the collector or reenactor 5 to 10 times as much and everyone of these helmets turns out to be an item that even advanced collectors would be very proud to display. We also are extremely proud to offer these helmets that can be said to be works of art. Prices vary because of scarcity of particular shell or extra piece such as helmet covers.

Tropical Camo M-40 Army Helmet (Item HELM 1-17) |

DESCRIPTION:This is a particular beauty; the artist knocked himself out on this one. It’s in tropical or Africa Corps coloration in the rough texture, newly painted with new decal; strap and liner all placed on an original helmet shell. So as we have ventured to say before, it is an original German helmet; it’s, however, been to the beauty shop. It’s fairly large size (58). Back flap is marked ‘QV1.’ The name ‘Bergmann’ is painted in the rim.

German Army Helmet Model Mod M-35 (double decal; original liner) (Item HELM 1-22) |
|||||||||||||
DESCRIPTION:This one is one of the best we have offered. First of all, it is a very large size as these original helmets go (size 58). This is most unusual. It has all the original marking at the inside (side) and back, newly marked strap with company markings, and the proper battle-worn decal. All in all, this is really a prima example.

Waffen-SS Refurbished Helmet (double decal) (Item HELM 1-23) |
||||||
DESCRIPTION:Here is one of the prettier of the refurbished-helmet series. This is an original helmet shell (not a reproduction!). It’s reprinted and re-decaled with a new liner and strap. It looks like it just came off the assembly line. It’s the ‘E 200’ issue with the ‘NS 66’ side stamp. It’s the rolled edge ‘M-35-40’ style with both decals. It has the early war-dress finish and it is in a size 58 (large). You would pay $5,000 for an original that looks like this. I would say this one is a bargain and a great fill-in for the collector who works on a bit of a tight budget.

The former owner’s name, ‘Eichinger’ is painted inside the rim at the back. The size is about ’58.’ Please take note once again that what we have here is an original helmet with the addition of the SS decal only. This was model ’38-40;’ with rolled edges. It’s just as nice as an original that recently sold for $2,850, but this one is offered for a bargain price.

|||||||
DESCRIPTION:Here is a completely refurbished size ‘58’ steel helmet, style ’38-40’ with rolled edge. The stamped markings at the back and side edges are not clear under the paint, but they are there because the basic shell of this helmet is 100-percent original. It’s not a reproduction. It is repainted to the original color with new decal, liner, and strap. This is a very fine specimen and would grace any fine WWII collection.

German Army, Single-decal M-43 Helmet (Item HELM 1-26) |
|||||||||

This again is a 100-percent real German WWII helmet completely and expertly refurbished with new liner, strap, decal, and repainted to resemble the actual original color. It still has the back of shell marking (‘NS 64 250’). The decal is the best type out there. The chinstrap is marked with stamped numbers and letter ‘RB Nr 0/0390/0204.’ This is a beautiful example. Snow Camouflage Eastern Front Helmet ‘M-35/40’ Style (Item HELM 1-27) |
|||||||||
DESCRIPTION:This is a 100-percent original helmet shell that has been repainted in the winter snow camouflage. The German soldiers were proud of the Deutsches Adler, or German national eagle, so usually when camouflaging their helmets they would paint around the decal as you can see in one of our illustrations that accompany this article. The helmet is in a size ‘56’ and has new decal, chinstrap, and liner. It’s the early ‘M-35/40’ manufacture with the rolled edges. The numbers ‘1165’ are clearly seen at the back flange. The artist has knocked himself out on this one and it is a great-looking Stalhelm.
